Help with refi

Is there an attorney or someone you can recommend to help us with a refi of our home?

We are hoping (and need) a lower interest rate and since the house is in both mine and DH's name, we have been unable to get a lower rate (DH's credit is horrific).

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Re: Help with refi

You typically don't need an attorney to do a refi.

But in your situation, I think the issues are:

1.) With a refi, you are applying for a new loan. So can you afford to carry the mortgage on your own, without your DH? And even if you could qualify for the mortgage on your own, would you want to be the only one on the mortgage?

or

2) Can your DH's credit be repaired? A good lender should be able to advise you on what your DH needs to do to fix his credit, and often they can recommend a reputable credit repair service that can help with this. Of course, you do pay a fee for credit repair, and some people are very leery of them (rightfully so). But one of the lenders I work with refers people to a great credit repair service. Some of my clients have had their credit scores go from low 500s to high 700s in a matter of 3-4 months using the recommended person. It's easier to fix if some of the issues are older, or if there are inaccuracies on the credit report that can be cleaned up. Newer delinquencies are a problem that can't really be fixed. So whether it's worth it to go the credit repair route really depends on your particular situation. But it's probably a more practical option than #1 (since most people can't carry a mortgage on one income alone).

Let me know if you would like the name of the lender and credit repair person I often work with/refer people to.
