Help with Organic food
Hi everyone I'm new to this board and was wondering if you would help me get started on switching to organics...
1. Where do you buy your meats? I went to trader joes in Hewlet but didn't find meats labeled "grass fed"
2. Which is more economical whole foods or trader joes?
3. Have you come across organic foods at bjs?
4. Is stop and shops "natures promise" organic?
5. Any helpful tips?
Thank you!

Re: Help with Organic food
There is a difference between organic and grass fed. I don't think (could be wrong) that organic beef is all 100% grass fed. The organic means it doesn't have the hormones, additives, fake things added, but it might still be fed corn, for example.
I buy some of my meats at Trader Joes. I mostly get my organic from Stop and Shop's Natures Promise. It is all organic. They usually have something on sale each week so I stock up buying 2 packs and freezing one. They sell organic beef, chicken, and pork.
No whole foods near me so can't comment.
I find trader joe's prices to be good but natures promise on sale is the best.

Re: Help with Organic food
Trader Joes prices are the best. I w ill buy Grass Fed, non organic if I have too fromt here or Whole Foods. Whole Foods is $$$$! For Meat anyway.
Fairway is another option too.
Stop and Shop really has a lot to offer at great prices with their Organic products.
We just eat less meat plain and simple to afford the extra cost.
Also the Target by me has a large grocery section now and has a TON of organic grocery items ( canned/packaged) at great prices.
ex. I like Wolfgang Pucks Organic canned soups..they are $1.99 at Target and were $2.69 at Whole Foods.

Re: Help with Organic food
When I do buy meat I only buy it from Whole Foods. They have organic, grass fed beef. THey are $$$ but I can still budget and get everything I need for almost the same amount I would spend at the supermarket.

I don't know if its different where I am but be careful with WF's meat. It si not ALWAYS organic OR grass fed. Their ground chuck is grass fed but not organic where I am. Their chicken is not grass fed or pasture raised and eats traditional corn...you really have to read the labels.
A few of my tips-we buy 95% organic.
I buy bulk items at TJ's
Organic fair trade coffee(IMPORTANT TO BUY ORGANIC) Sweet potatoes apples yukon gold potatoes Kiwi banannas sometimes
Whole Foods
Meats Applegate Farms cold cuts Cheeses Snacks for my kids Fish-always fresh not farm raised Produce-they have a huge variety-we usually make mushrooms, kale, swiss cahard, eggplant, carrots, brussels sprouts or green beans Olive Oil and Vinegar
I fill in from my regular supermarket Heinz organic ketchup is better IMO than WF 365 brand Polenta Pastas Salsa etc.
