Help with interview!

Hi! Please help a career-changer from the corporate world. I just got my masters in education (ESL/childhood) and have lined up an interview (finally)!

What is typical interview attire for a teacher? Is it the same as corporate - full business suit? Or is it somewhat less formal (slacks and button-down/or blouse ok?)

Can you please show me what you use to carry your belongings (cell, keys, wallet, copies of resume, paperwork, portfolio etc.)... Briefcase? Is that too stuffy/formal?

Any other tips/advice would be greatly appreciated as I am so nervous!

Please help! Thank you!!! :)

I usually wear dress pants, a nice short, and a shell. I have worn a full suit but when I go in the summer it is just to hot. I usually carry my stuff in a nice big pocketbook or messenger bag. Good luck! You will do great!

Re: Help with interview!

Dress pants and a nice professional top. I think the bag kind of goes along with the grade position. I used a Vera Bradley type bag when I went for my Kindergarten demo. If you're going for upper grades I would say a nice large tote would be good.

Make sure you have an extra copy or 2 of your resume, be prepared to answer questions about assessments, parent involvement, and ways to differentiate instruction. Good luck!

Definitely a full business suit with a skirt, blouse, jacket, stockings. You always want to look professional for an interview. Appearance means a lot, even in the teaching world!

A briefcase or a nice work bag for your belongings.

Help with interview!

Skirt suit not pants, unless it's a demo lesson. If it's a less conservative district, maybe. But unless you know the inner workings, I wouldn't chance it.
White or ivory shell, minimal jewelry, closed toe shoe.

Thanks for the advice!!!

In your opinion, are nude patent leather flats ok or would they be a no go?

I think flats are fine as long as they look professional I wouldn't wear ballerina looking flats... Good luck !

Re: Help with interview!

I wear black pants, a nice shirt and a cardigan to every interview I go to. I also usually wear a comfortable heel - not flats. I personally don't think a business suit is necessary unless you're doing a demo, but I guess it's better to be over dressed.

This is similar to the bag I use for work:

Re: Help with interview!

I wear a suit with heels. I can't imagine not wearing one to an interview. First impressions are important.

As for bag, I usually bring a nice tote purse.

What grade level are you interviewing for?
