Help w/naps

My son basically does not nap. I am lucky if he does - and it's rarely more than 45 min if that. He is fussing in his crib now and I'm OK w/letting him do that if he would fall asleep eventually. What typically happens though is he ends up wailing - crying so hard he chokes and I can't let him do that. Otherwise he'll fuss and coo on and off in the crib until his next feeding. I know 2 months is too early for regular naps, but how else do i prevent him from getting overtired?? I can SEE he is so tired and he gets impossiblly cranky when he doesn't sleep. On days when he DOES nap, he is an angel and life is good. I need more days like that.Chat Icon Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!!

Re: Help w/naps

my little girl does the exact same thing, she is 6 weeks old. i find during the times she starts to cry in her crib it is helpful to use a pacifier. She likes to suck on her fingers and gets upset when she can't. it is easier to use the pacifier, she finds it comforting.

Re: Help w/naps

Well he actually can find his hands and wants nothing to do w/his paci right now. Is he too young to CIO for a nap? He goes down fine at night, probably from sheer exhaustion...

Re: Help w/naps

I don't know if he is to you to CIO for a nap. I am pretty sure it won't harm him. Have you tried wrapping him real well, maybe that would help.

Re: Help w/naps

Hmm well I just let him cry for an hour and it got to where he was wailing so I went in and picked him up - 5 min in the rocking chair w/Paci and he was out. I think all that crying tired him out! Sleeping in crib now, I hope he gets at least an hour.

2 months is definitely too early for CIO. That doesn't come until they can really self soothe around 4 - 6months depeding on what book you read. My doctor told me as long as he is sleeping well at night, let him sleep anywhere he wants during the day. Sometimes I try to see if he will sleep in the cirb - usually not - but he loves to sleep in the swing. Anything to get him to sleep is better then no sleep during the day.

Re: Help w/naps

I wouldn't mind if he'd sleep in the swing, he'd just rather be awake no matter where I put him. he's back up now after 30 min - but I'll take the 30 min and just enjoy him :)

Re: Help w/naps

There is no way I could have let my DD cio at 2 months but then again I cannot do it now and she is nearlyl 9mths!!! so its your call but IMO its way to early.

I too had a baby who wouldnt nap and if she did it was only for 15 mins or so. I think I was missing a lot of her signs as I didnt know she needed so much sleep...someone on here said that they should nap every 2 hours so I used to watch for that and then feed her or take her for a quick walk and she would sleep. I sometimes resorted to driving around the block to get her to sleepChat Icon

Once asleep the longest naps she took and still takes are when there is white noise on...the fan in my kitchen has been a life saver.

Good luck its not easy on mommy or baby if there are no napsChat Icon
