Help us get a TV....
We really don't want to spend more than $1000. Want flat, HDTV, bigger then better (According to dear BF)
So where to look, who to buy?

Check out Microcenter in Westbury. They had some Syntax Olevia Flat Panel LCD HDTVs there. Some were right around $1000 buks after rebates.

Re: Help us get a TV....
They had a black friday deal.... a 37" for $1199. I think it went as low as $899 after rebates. A very good deal. Not sure if its still good or not.

Actually...
Dell deals have been horrible recently for TVs. I have been looking at dell for over two years and haven't seen anything worth buying. You can find much better deals elsewhere.

The Syntax Olevia line that Microcenter sells is a real bargain. I have one of their 27" models and I love it.

The best plasma brand you can buy is Panasonic. Pioneer and Philips are also good.
The best LCD TV brand you can buy is Sharp Aquos.. but this line is very pricey.
You can get a 42" HDTV Plasma for around $1500-2000 now. 50" models can be had for $2300-3000.
If you don't want plasma and prefer LCD... expect to pay about $1000 more for the same size of plasma.

Get the Panasonic 50" HDTV plasma. Best plasma on the market right now. It will run between $3000-3500 and will last you many many years.
Ive had my Pioneer 50" plasma for over two years now and its ran great and still looks just as good as anything thats out now and new.

Re: Help us get a TV....
I have heard very good reviews on the picture quality of this model. $2599 for a 50" flat plasma HDTV. Might even have free shipping... not sure though.

Re: Help us get a TV....
We just got a 37 inch Sharp Aquos LCD for $1988. It is a great picture. The reason we got the LCD over the plasma is that we were repeatedly told that if you leave the TV on pause (tivo) or play video games that have similar pictures or like watching channels that have that bar running on the bottom of them, those images burn into the screen. Lisa we are looking for an LCD over plasma, where did you buy your Sharp? How is the 37" measured? What is the height and width of your model border included?

Re: Help us get a TV....
we got it at PC richard model number lc37gb5u.
the outside measurements from speaker picture to speaker (length) 43 1/4 inches height is 21 1/2 inches depth including wall mount 6 1/2 inches. 37 inches is the diagonal picture measurement (not including the speakers which for our model are attached).
the more expensive 37 inch model speakers detach. for us that was not necessary so we got the less expensive model with the attached speakers. Sharp makes 12 different 37 inch models. The only difference between them is whether the tuner is a seperate box (no longer available), speakers are attached to the unit (what we got)(tuner is inside TV), and speakers that detach (tuner is inside tv). Everything else is the same.

i always wondered about the measurements. wasn't sure if 37" referred to just the screen or the whole tv. thanks for clarifying.

Re: Help us get a TV....
OH FYI- If you wall mount the install is extra and you need to purchase seperately a wall mount $100. Longer cables if needed (they only supply 6 feet cables. PC richards has the cables but they were more expensive. We got our cables for less from best buy. But later on found others at Home Depot for a lot less, but I was not familiar with the brand. Lisa

you can get very cheap cables (also good) from monoprice.com
as for TV....at that price point, you limit yourself to what you can do. the model that Pill said is ok and LCD do last a while but as like anything, can go at any moment.
you can do 32" LCD (phillips) at that price (clearance at best buy if they still have stock) and you can find plamsa (EDTV - a little less detail then HDTV) for about 1000 new..

Re: Help us get a TV....
The Sharp Aqos LCD TVs look AWESOME. I wish they made them bigger (and cheaper) though.
I'll tell you one thing though... if you plan on using a playstation or xbox on the TV a lot (more than two hours a day or at a time)... do not get plasma. The burnin chance is too great on some games.
I got my 50" plasma over two years ago. At the time... I used it to watch my TV... play my xbox and I plugged my PC into it. I had to be REAL careful when using the PC and Xbox on it cause burnin was very possible. Had it set up that way for over a year.
The best thing I ever did a year after I got my plasma was to go out and buy a 27" LCD HDTV to put in my office. I hooked the PC up to it and moved my xbox into the office. Don't have to worry about burnin now and I only paid $899 for the 27".
