HELP! STAR program
So, we were told we have to get this STAR application in.
Um. Ihave the application, but I cant find ANYWHERE, on ANY website that says what to actually DO with the application.
Suffolk county, Smithaven.
Any help is appreciated.

I thought STAR had to be in by 3/1 but here is the info:

Send to the assessor.

Each area is different. For example in Nassau County the deadline is Dec. 31st. If you can't find it anywhere on the website or your application, I would just call to get an answer.

you have to go to your county accessors office and drop it off. We just did this yesterday. Nassau just requires the application along with a copy of your drivers license.http://www.smithtowninfo.com/assessor'soffice/

Town of Smithtown- mail it via certified mail return receipt requested to the Assessor's Office - 40 Maple Avenue, Smithtown, NY 11787
The STAR application for the 2012/13 tax year (runs from 12/1/12 to 11/30/13) was due 3/1/12.
Any application you submit now will be for the 2013/14 tax year. HOWEVER, if the former owners had a STAR exemption in place, it would carry over for this year for you.
