Help! Sick...which doctor to call, if any?

I had a cold last week but it was really minor and starting to go away so I didn't bother making an appointment with my doctor. Well since last night I have developed this horrible, uncontrollable cough. Otherwise I feel okay but last night I was coughing so much it caused me to vomit. Chat Icon I know my OB said I could take robitussin for a cough which is what I am going to try to do but does this seem like an emergency call situation? My regular doctors office is closed and the OBs office would have to page someone to talk to me. I have an OB appointment on Tuesday so I don't know if I should take the robitussin and see if it gets better and if not call tomorrow. Sorry for this ramble of a post. Normally I wouldn't think to call a dr for a cough but my dh is worried and it's making me nervous. Thanks!

I was sick last week..... First called my ob to see what over the counter stuff I could take (saline wash to clear my nose, regular robitussin... Nothing really useful)

Then I went to gen practitioner dr who prescribed a z-pak & a safe nasal spray. Then I called back my ob to make sure the meds the reg dr gave me were safe ( they were)

Good luck & feel better!!!!

If you have an infection, they will put you on an antibiotic and it is safe. Call your primary care. If they are not open, you can see what urgent care places your insurance covers.

I had bronchitis around Christmas and the same thing happened to me while coughing. Chat Icon Get it looked at before it turns into something worse.

I'm sick with a horrendous cough and ended up having a sinus infection and tonsillitis.

I would try to go to your primary care doctor or go to a walk in if you can. I'm on antibiotics now, and it's better to get them started if it really is something.

You can call either your primary or your OB. When I was sick I went to my OB because I had never even been to my primary before with this new insurance and didn't feel like going to a new doctor.

Just wanted to add that I dont have a gen practitioner really... I always go to walk-in places. Def gry a walk-in place. I dont know where u r located but Premier care on merrick rd in lynbrook is awesome & Franklin immediate medical care in Franklin square is good. I prefer lynbrook premier care( where I went last week)

I have had a congested cough for over a week now. I went to my primary care physician. He said as long as it is not infected and you don't have a fever, then the baby is okay. He prescribed me an antibiotic just in case I get a fever. I haven't filled it. I still have the cough. I haven't taken anything for it but as long as I know it is not infected and the baby is fine, I'll wait until it goes away.

Not to sound too gross but if the mucus is yellow or green you could have an infcection. call your PCP. Good Luck!

Re: Help! Sick...which doctor to call, if any?

Thanks girls! I called my OBs office since my PCP is closed. She said that the baby will be fine and since mucus is clear and I don't have a fever it's probably not an infection. I am going to try to take robitussin and rest today and if it seems to get worse I will go to an urgent care place. Thanks again!
