Help! Safety locks for windows

My son is 3 and tried to open a window in the playroom that is on the second floor of my house. Thank God I saw him! The windows have the crank that you turn and they open out sideways. Are there any safety latches that I can put on them to make them safer? It is a straight drop down two stories if he gets the window open and I am freaking out!!

can you take the handle off? We have these types of windows downstairs, but we took the handle off, and just keep it in a spot where they cant reach it

Re: Help! Safety locks for windows

We have a babyproofer that has done our entire house, because DS is crazy! We have the same windows, and while they do have kits for those windows, I was to afraid of not being able to open it in case of a fire. So what we do is keep the window closed and locked and we removed the handle. I keep it on a top shelf in his closet in case we ever need it.

i Grew up with those type of windows and they all had a lock towards the top. I'm very surprised yours don't. Since they don't however, I would also suggest taking off the crank. Chat Icon

Thanks so much for your replies! The locks are kind of mid way up but he has actually dragged things over to boost himself up, laundry baskets, toys, whatever he can get his hands on. I never would have thought to take the handle off, I will definitely do that. Thank you so much, you have made my life so much easier! :)
