HELP re: filing taxes...
OK...hi my name is DUMMY!!
So every year my accountant (a friend of the fam) and I get together to discuss my statements etc. He then takes all my stuff, does my taxes, then about a week later he sends me an envelope with my completed taxes (for me to sign and mail) and his bill. So this year I was alllll proud of myself that I got them done early.
This morning I realize...OOPS I never paid his billl-I open the envelope (for the first time!) and there are my taxes!! What was I thinking all these weeks?? I know that's our procedure.
So I ran to the post office at 8 this morning and mailed them.
So I ask....what now? Do I need to file an extention with the IRS? Will I incur a penalty??
I'm so annoyed with myself!!

did you owe money or are you supp to get refunds back?
if you owe, they may assess you a one day late filing, late payment penalty...no big deal.
if refund, don't worry, no problem.
dont bother filing an extension, you already sent in the taxes, plus the extension would be invalid anyway since that has to be postmarked by 4/15

ditto---you have no taxes owed--you will be fine. the apr. 15th deadline is really about the ones who owe the govt money.

if you're getting a refund, there is NO problem!
the ONLY issue you'll have is that (if you qualify) your economic stimulus rebate check will be later.
i hope that won't be a problem for you

Nooo problem at all. I just don't want to go to jail!! haha.
I really wanted to use the refunds for our honeymoon so I hope they aren't toooo late.
