Help pick my brain - Prepping someone to be a babysitter
My next door neighbor's daughter wants to start babysitting. Her older sister used to be my regular babysitter but she's not available much. The 13 year old has no experience so I was thinking of basically teaching her everything so she can start to babysit for me in the future. I have a 4 year old and an 18 month old. So far - things to teach her (I've been making a list):
- choking hazards
- Food basics (what's appropriate/how small to cut food
- changing table basics- (never leave baby unattended, etc)
- I am going to keep me eye out for when my library offers CPR classes
What else?
She would never have to bathe them

General safety like keeping the doors locked, don't answer if someone knocks, what to do if the phone rings, etc.
13 seems so young to me but I actually started babysitting that age myself. I would definitely start with having her spend a good amount of time with you so she can see exactly what your routines and rules are. I babysat a lot for family so I would spend a few days at a time with my cousins so I knew everything they did from the time they woke in the morning until they went to bed so I guess that was really my training.

I know . I kinda felt like 13 is young too but like you , I was also babysitting at that age. I did plan on her spending a lot of time with is first before I would leave her alone . I am paranoid so she would be as prepared as possible before I left her alone
