Help Me With Baby Clothes!
I am due in August.
1. Do I need to purchase a baby jacket? When do babies actually need jackets? October or later? If I buy one, what size should it be?
2. Halo Sleepsacks- How many should I register for and in what sizes? They have newborn ones and also sizes small and medium. I am so confused!! Any info on what sizes of sleepsacks I will need would be appreciated.
3. What is a good coming home outfit for an August baby? Is a regular onesie OK?
4. On the buy buy baby registry checklist they recommend "4-6 gowns/sleepwear" ... what is appropriate sleepwear for a baby?
5. Do I need any caps or hats? What kind? And, if so, what month will I be using those caps or hats?
6. In general what are the clothing basics I will need? How much do I stock up on at what sizes...
Help please. I am so confused trying to figure out what is a necessity and what sizes I should have. I'd like to have the first 9 months supplies on hand and not have to run out each month scrambling to buy what I don't have or still need.

Re: Help Me With Baby Clothes!
I wont be able to help with a lot of your questions as I am a first time mom and def wonder about some of that same stuff... I hear different things from different moms... I do hear dont wash everything you buy and take the tags off because your not sure how big the baby will be when he or she is born and may grow out of things quickly. So its good to keep the tags on some things so you can return it...
I registered for Sleepsacks in different sizes... I did 2 Newborns, 2 size Small and 1 or 2 Size Medium I believe.
I believe the Sleep sacks are the 'sleepwear' and you can just put white cotton onesie underneath? I THINK... Or the onesie with footsies on them is considered sleepwear as well... And the gowns which I hear are great because its SUPER easy to change diapers in the middle of the night, you dont have to worry about buttons and stuff, you just pull up the gown...

1. Do I need to purchase a baby jacket? When do babies actually need jackets? October or later? If I buy one, what size should it be?
My DS was born Dec 28th and I had a jacket for him and he never used it. We had a little fleece onsie that he was in once or twice but the weather has been so nice and he's a hot kid. plus we were never outside for very long...just car to house or car to store. Always wormed up the car first
2. Halo Sleepsacks- How many should I register for and in what sizes? They have newborn ones and also sizes small and medium. I am so confused!! Any info on what sizes of sleepsacks I will need would be appreciated.
I got one for my shower and did not use it. he slept in a onsie and on colder nights a fleecie onsie.
3. What is a good coming home outfit for an August baby? Is a regular onesie OK?
Cant help on this since mine was a winter baby. Think layers though so you can add or take awy.
4. On the buy buy baby registry checklist they recommend "4-6 gowns/sleepwear" ... what is appropriate sleepwear for a baby?
Mine always slept in onsies
5. Do I need any caps or hats? What kind? And, if so, what month will I be using those caps or hats?
I would only buy a few since you might not really need them til the colder months and you never know how fast they grow.
6. In general what are the clothing basics I will need? How much do I stock up on at what sizes...
I wouldn't worry too much about clothes until after your shower. People will jsut buy you clothes even if you do not register for any. And they buy them in all sorts of sizes. I would wait and see what you get and then decide from there. Also once yo have the baby people will give more clothes.
HTH!!!

Re: Help Me With Baby Clothes!
I am due in August.
1. Do I need to purchase a baby jacket? When do babies actually need jackets? October or later? If I buy one, what size should it be?
DS was born in October and it was pretty warm. I had him in sweaters that people made and then I bought a little fleece jacket. Plus I had a bundle me on the carseat. I got the fleece jacket in size 6months. A friend of mine did buy him a little peacoat for the winter. We have used it a handful of times, but it has been a mild winter and we aren't usually outside for too long, so he didn't use it that much.
2. Halo Sleepsacks- How many should I register for and in what sizes? They have newborn ones and also sizes small and medium. I am so confused!! Any info on what sizes of sleepsacks I will need would be appreciated.
I had only 2 fleece sleep sacks. We didn't use them at first because it was warm. I did put a blanket on him when he slept in the rock and play sleeper. once he was in the crib i used a small size and now he is using a medium sized one. i would go for the bigger so LO can grow into it.
3. What is a good coming home outfit for an August baby? Is a regular onesie OK?
I bought a size 3 months sleep and play outfit. it was big on him, but still so cute! I think a one piece outfit or onesie and pants might work.
4. On the buy buy baby registry checklist they recommend "4-6 gowns/sleepwear" ... what is appropriate sleepwear for a baby?
I had a few gowns, which he used for the first 2-3 months. Made it easier to change him in the middle of the night. Otherwise i left him in the sleep and plays at night.
5. Do I need any caps or hats? What kind? And, if so, what month will I be using those caps or hats?
I had a few hats that people made me. We used them from day one if he we took him outside because it did get windy and chilly as the fall months went on. I don't think you'll really need it in august, but once sept and october come you will. 2-3 are probably enough because it's only when the baby is outside.
6. In general what are the clothing basics I will need? How much do I stock up on at what sizes...
lots of onesies and sleep and plays -3 and 6 months. you will probably get a lot of clothes from people. so don't get yourself too much just yet! i wasn't big on putting him in "outfits" per say in the beginning. the one piece with feet were so much easier!
Help please. I am so confused trying to figure out what is a necessity and what sizes I should have. I'd like to have the first 9 months supplies on hand and not have to run out each month scrambling to buy what I don't have or still need.

Re: Help Me With Baby Clothes!
I'm also due in August with my second and we're Team so I'll tell you what I'm doing.
1. Do I need to purchase a baby jacket? When do babies actually need jackets? October or later? If I buy one, what size should it be?
No need for a jacket when they're that small. Even during the winter they'll be in the infant seat with the Bundle Me.
2. Halo Sleepsacks- How many should I register for and in what sizes? They have newborn ones and also sizes small and medium. I am so confused!! Any info on what sizes of sleepsacks I will need would be appreciated.
When my son was first born I swaddled him and I am planning on doing the same with my second one. I will be getting 3 small swaddle blankets and 1 Miracle Blanket and then get the appropriate size-up once the baby is born and is growing. The sleepsack for me won't come handy until my baby is not swaddled anymore which will be around 3 months.
3. What is a good coming home outfit for an August baby? Is a regular onesie OK?
I'm getting a one-piece short sleeve and shorts jumper for a girl and one for a boy (won't know which one to use until then), with matching little socks a hat and a blanket.
4. On the buy buy baby registry checklist they recommend "4-6 gowns/sleepwear" ... what is appropriate sleepwear for a baby?
Again, I will be swaddling and my baby will be swaddled in a short sleeve onesie, socks and a thin hat.
5. Do I need any caps or hats? What kind? And, if so, what month will I be using those caps or hats?
Yes. Get a couple of newborn cotton hats and the rest wait out bc you won't know how big of a melon your little one will have. My son had a melon and a half and so the newborn hats fit him when he was first born and then he went straight to like 3-6 months.
6. In general what are the clothing basics I will need? How much do I stock up on at what sizes...
Short sleeve onesies, long sleeve onesies, one piece sleep sets (cotton), cotton socks and hats are a must. Get a couple of newborn sizes and then the rest 0-3 months and 3-6 months, that way you have a variety. My son was born at 7lbs. 2oz. but gained 5 lbs. during the first month so this worked perfect for me.

Re: Help Me With Baby Clothes!
My advice in general is to wait until the baby is born for as much as possible. I was at BBB the other day and saw a girl registering and said to my mom that I wish so bad that I could tell these girls they don't need half the stuff they think they do.
You will want to buy new things once the baby is here. Shopping for her is my favorite thing to do, and I get excited to buy for the next size/season. Plus you have no idea how big your baby will be when - DD is 9 months and can wear size 6 months in tops and 18 months in pants!!!
1. Do I need to purchase a baby jacket? When do babies actually need jackets? October or later? If I buy one, what size should it be?
Buy a jacket when you need it. DD was born in June. She has a fall/spring jacket in 6 months that still fits her and she has been wearing now since it is so nice. She also has a fleece coverall for when it is cold. I waited until we needed them to buy them.
2. Halo Sleepsacks- How many should I register for and in what sizes? They have newborn ones and also sizes small and medium. I am so confused!! Any info on what sizes of sleepsacks I will need would be appreciated.
I highly recommend the Miracle Blanket. Never used the Halo sleepsacks. You will not need them in August.
3. What is a good coming home outfit for an August baby? Is a regular onesie OK?
I got a coming home outfit from Dennys and it was so big my mom had to run out to buy something else. It was a two piece with feet and had long sleeves. After a week or two I took her out in rompers when it was hot. You can dress them how you would dress in the heat.
4. On the buy buy baby registry checklist they recommend "4-6 gowns/sleepwear" ... what is appropriate sleepwear for a baby?
I HATED the gowns. I highly recommend the Carters Sleep and Plays - they fit well, are comfortable and are inexpensive, so it is no big deal when they grow out of them in a few weeks! I needed like 5-6 in Newborn, since they get changed like twice a day, and you don't have time to keep doing the laundry at first. I kept her in those all day and night.
5. Do I need any caps or hats? What kind? And, if so, what month will I be using those caps or hats?
I NEVER used a hat. I found them to just be annoying.
6. In general what are the clothing basics I will need? How much do I stock up on at what sizes...
I would just buy like 2 newborn and 2 3 month sleep and plays for now and wait and see how big the baby is and what you find to work for you, since every baby is different. Again, my advice is to wait, since we had so much stuff that we really didn't need in the end.

Re: Help Me With Baby Clothes!
I am due in August.
1. Do I need to purchase a baby jacket? When do babies actually need jackets? October or later? If I buy one, what size should it be? I used a bundle me for the winter. You can get a nice sweater or fleece all in one for walks in the fall but I basically only used the bundle me.
2. Halo Sleepsacks- How many should I register for and in what sizes? They have newborn ones and also sizes small and medium. I am so confused!! Any info on what sizes of sleepsacks I will need would be appreciated. We had 2 and didnt really use them. My ds was born in May so they were too hot for the summer and in the winter he slept in fleece footy pjs. Get 1 piece sleep and plays for the summer. 3. What is a good coming home outfit for an August baby? Is a regular onesie OK?
My ds came home in July and i had him in a really nice onsie/shortall that looked like a sailor suit. He wore onsies all summer. 4. On the buy buy baby registry checklist they recommend "4-6 gowns/sleepwear" ... what is appropriate sleepwear for a baby? My ds wore 1 piece footed sleepers to bed. I didn't have any gowns and if you get them only buy 0-3 months. 5. Do I need any caps or hats? What kind? And, if so, what month will I be using those caps or hats? For summer i didn't use hats but you will in the fall all depending on the weather. I had a really nice sweater with a hood that I used a lot in the fall.
6. In general what are the clothing basics I will need? How much do I stock up on at what sizes... Get carters sleep and plays and onsies and socks You will get lots of gifts once the baby is born. I loved one piece items because u didn't need socks or shoes and poop was contained. Once the fall comes you will want pants with the onsies or the fleece outfits, (onsie, pants and jackets) But I would wait to buy until the fall/winter. You can always order online and my DS usually changed sizes about every 3 months so its hard to estimate this far out.
All I know is don't buy gender neutral clothes bigger than 0-3 months. Once the baby comes ducks and frogs get old really quick and its embarrassing to put a 9 month old boy in a yellow duck 1 piece.
Help please. I am so confused trying to figure out what is a necessity and what sizes I should have. I'd like to have the first 9 months supplies on hand and not have to run out each month scrambling to buy what I don't have or still need.

Re: Help Me With Baby Clothes!
I have to agree with the previous posters since everyone is mostly saying the same things. By sleepsacks do you mean the swaddle ones or just the wearable blanket? I absolutely loved the Swaddle Me blankets and my ds loved being swaddled and I only used the wearable blankets once he wasn't swaddled anymore. I would register for 2-3. As far as clothes, I didn't register for any with my ds and got a TON of clothes (various sizes) after he was born and also a ton of gender neutral stuff (also various sizes) at my shower. I wouldn't register for clothes and wait to see what people give you. If you are planning on finding out the sex you will get a bunch of gender specific clothes at your shower. I found people love to include an outfit or 2 with their gift.
Eta: For pj's, I always did feet pj's with a zipper closure. Fumbling to line up buttons during a 2 am feeding and being sleep deprived is like a MENSA challenge
