Re: HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!

We just redid ours - went to Home Depot and got American Standard tub and toilet. I don't really know the difference but I know AS is a good brand. As for the tile - go there or go to a kitchen and bath store and ask someone for help or look at magazines. I chose beige b/c we don't plan on staying here and I think it will be easier to sell a house with a beige/plain bathroom.

Re: HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!

We are doing an expansion which will include two bathrooms, so I am choosing all these things as well.

1. all toilets are low volume flush now (1.6l). Some have a double button - you can use the full flush or a .9 flush for, umm, when you go #1 I guess you could say. They also have different flushing systems - one brand I looked at (Toto - "the" brand to get right now) has six! I think the majority would work fine in any bathroom. If you have kids, you might want to stay away from the siphon flush - it's very powerful and if they stick something in the toilet and flush, it will be gone and possible clog your pipes.

2. if you're getting a basic bathtub, there is a slight difference in height (from about 14" to 18"), so if that matters, you might want to weed some out that way. The drain will also be right or left side (check your plumbing). They come in cast iron (Home Depot has a very affordable Kohler - very heavy to carry though), Americast (steel coated with something - supposed to be quieter and keep the water warmer longer) and then various acrylic models - very lightweight but maybe won't last as long as the metal tubs. There's also your basic steel tub - Home Depot or Lowe's would have for less than $100.

3. most places will tell you tile is tile. We are getting porcelain for the floor (color goes all the way through in case it chips or scratches) and ceramic for the wall. Some people will tell you to always buy Spanish or Italian, or maybe American tile - best quality. Depends on your budget - they can get expensive. I personally don't see the difference no matter where they're made, but I'm not an expert.

If you go to a tile store, they will tell you anything you want to know. The internet is also great for research on all this.

The first is to show you the wall and floor tiles and the second, the tub- we got a low tub (easier to bathe the kids with we figured)...Don't have any pix of the toilet - that should be in this week, I'll post pix when the bathroom is all done.

Laura- love your tile! We got something very similar. We are going to have to live with this bathroom for a long time so I wanted something neutral.

You may want to think about a comfort height toilet- we got one (not installed yet). It's a little higher than the standard toilet. My back has been killing me lately and I know that having something a little higher will make things easier.
