Help me keep my sanity
My mil is visiting for 5 weeks. It's day 2. I love her but trying to keep my sanity. I'm unemployed so I drop dd off from 8-12 at school which is my time usually for job hunting or errands. From 12 on dd and I usually eat lunch, watch some tv and I'll do some cleaning and job hunting stuff. Since mil is here she follows me everywhere. I'm not used to having to talk to someone 24/7. It's day 2 and I'm already feeling tense. She doesn't drive and her only friend in NY is in FL till the middle of Oct.
Any tips? Doesn't help that the weather sucks so we are kind of trapped in the house.
I do love her. I'm just such a creature of habit that I don't know what to do with her.

Re: Help me keep my sanity
That's rough. Does she have any hobbies? Is she a MIL that's helpful around the house? Would she be interested in museums?

Help me keep my sanity
She is helpful around the house but my house is spotless since I'm unemployed. She can't drive as her eyesight and hearing are not good. Watching soap operas and telling my dd to be careful every 10 minutes is her hobby. Dd is estatic that she's here.

Re: Help me keep my sanity
Can you take her & DD somewhere -like a library program, and then go to another part of the library to to job search stuff? OR if there is no program that works, just have DD show her the kids section & look at books together. Tell the you want them to have bonding time.
Or take them to something you would stay at with DD (lik a play place) if MIL can handle it on her own & run errands & then pick them up.

give a her a few chores, folding the cloth, baking cookies for the kids, my grandma loved to sew and fix, if your MIL does find things for her to hem, buttons that need to be replaced.

Re: Help me keep my sanity
Just go about your day the way you normally would. She will leave you alone after a little while. Or have your husband say something. Is there anything walking distance like a park or pizza place she could take your daughter too? Or even for a walk in the stroller.
