Help me find a computer....
my husband and I just moved to San Diego last month... and decided to leave my 2003 dell behind -- it just wasn't cutting it! it would always just turn itself off whenever i was doing something really important (how did it know? haha)
anyways.... I need a new computer, and my husband doesn't want to spend TOO much. i really wanted the new Sony desktop, but it's $1800 and my husband seems to think that you're not getting more quality with that price, that just the brand name makes it so expensive.
can anyone recommend a good desktop? it would mainly be used for work-related reasons (I'm a speech-pathologist -- so I'd need to do report writing, making worksheets, creating lesson plans, etc.), for checking email (work and personal), and of course for chatting on LIW and LIF! I don't do too many things with graphics or anything like that -- I just mostly use the basic Microsoft Office features and the internet.

the only reason that i feel a little hesitant about getting a new dell is because of how my old one ended up! i know it was pretty old for a computer, but it caused my lots of heartache over the years! (randomly shutting down and losing all of my files & pictures) -- i just didn't want to take the chance again ... even though i'm sure they have better computers now than the one I had

My husband bought me my current lap top last year as a xmas gift.
It's an Inspiron B130 with a pentium M processor. Make sure any computer you get will be windows vista compatible if it isn't already w/Vista. I've had a year and I love it.

What about the apple imac?
DH has it and loves it... i have the ibook g4 laptop and works just as great as the first day i got it (it's 5 yrs old).

get an apple iMac...we have two of them and love them...we would never buy another windows based pc...but on the new apples you can run windows if you need to.

That's another vote for the iMac. Once you go Mac you'll never go back to a PC...

I also suggest a MAC.
But since you'll be doing more word processing type stuff - what about HP? We have them here at work and they've been great. My co-worker has a laptop of there and he loves it.
