Help! Last Minute Invite to a Formal Event

I sooo don't want to go to this, especially since I have to be the chauffeur for my parents and DH and there is an hour long Cigar Lounge at the end (and I can't leave early because we are driving my parents) Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But- DH wants to go.

Anyway, it's an event at Oheka Castle this Saturday night.

I need either an appropriate dress or a formal top to wear over black pants.

Can anyone help me out?! It's too late to order online.

I was in motherhood last night and they had nothing appropriate (although, I wasn't looking for anything formal since I was just invited 10 minutes ago.)

Help...please Chat Icon

Keri, try Macys-I have a formal BCBG dress that is very stretchy. If you find something jersey with an empire waist, you will be fine!

I am almost 32 weeks and still wear non maternity dresses if they are empire waist and forgiving material.

Re: Help! Last Minute Invite to a Formal Event

Thanks everyone- I have an appointment in Northport after work...after that I guess I'll drive down 110 and stop in at Destination Maternity and Macy's to see what I can find.

I just went through this for a christmas party a few weeks ago and found nothing. I wound up wearing an old dress- but I've worn it a zillion times and it's probably another 2 inches shorter at this point Chat Icon

If it was at the some yucky place I wouldn't go, but Oheka? Wrap me in a garbage bag----I'd go!

I was at the Destination Maternity store in Huntington (across from Walt Whitman) on Sunday. The had some formal dresses there. The Lord and Taylor has a huge dress dept---not maternity, but a lot of the dresses are super loose fitting. If not, maybe a dressy top and leggings?

See this is a yearly thing (at Oheka) so I've been there for the past 3 years and every year I say I'm never going back. And every year DH is dying to go (for networking purposes). Ugh.

The sad part is I have NO money to spend on something to wear. I have to be frugal about this. I can't go buying some $150-$200 dress when the LIPA bill is due soon.

I can't tell you how bad my mood is right now because of this. I'm so ****** at myself for even mentioning it to him.

Okay, in that case, either:
(1) try to get out of going----just tell DH u don't have the energy. I'm sure your parents will understand too.

OR

(2) Go to Forever 21 and buy a loose top for $10 and wear it with some black leggings and a fancy necklace. (My sis did this for her shower when she was almost 8 months preggo!)

Re: Help! Last Minute Invite to a Formal Event

DH just had his xmas party there and I was going to where black dress pants from motherhood with a bloucy XL top from JCpenneys.. and dress it up with nice shoes (and just not stand at all.. lol) and some nice jewelry... unfortunately I didn't get to go..

If you really don't want to go I'd really try to use the pregnancy excuse and get out of it.. i.e.. really tired, swelling, nausious etc.. You go every year and I think he should understand your situation for this one time..
