Help! Jumping out of cribs

It started with one DD, and now the other did it.
My twins are 16mo. Old, and I have not seen them get out. I do know that DD#1 made a thud and cried when she jumped out. she was fine, but shaken up when I ran to her from the next room. Dd#2 did it today, and it didnt make a sound. I am deathly afraid that they will be seriously injured.

Their room has an xtra tall gate across the door, and they won't be able to get out, thank God. I am beyond worried, especially now that they think it's funny/not scary.

What should I do? Chat Icon

Re: Help! Jumping out of cribs

Is your crib higher in the back than the front? I would say flip it around if so!

Can you put them in sleepsacks so it makes it harder to climb out?

Re: Help! Jumping out of cribs

DD tried jumping out of her crib at around 2 years old. I was not ready to put her in a bed though.

Not sure if you could do this, but is the back of the crib higher than the front? We turned her crib around, so that the tall side was on the outside as opposed to against the wall. We also pushed the crib into the corner, so that there was only one "short" side she could hop over. On this side, we pushed a pack-n-play against the crib so that if she did jump out, she would land in this. She didn't attempt to jump out after we did this. Hope this makes sense!

Help! Jumping out of cribs

My 14 1/2 month old son just did this Saturday morning! I heard a loud thud and then crying. I ran to his room to find him on the floor!! We were able to lower the mattress one more level; but I never even thought about turning the crib around. Good idea!! He's still so young; I'm not ready to switch him to the toddler bed.

When you guys say "jumped out" do you mean they climbed out? Or actually jumped on the mattress to propel out?

Help! Jumping out of cribs

My youngest was an escape artist. We changed her bed into a toddler bed at about that age. She first climbed out at about 14 months, so we put a sleep sack on. Then she learned to unzip the sack, so we put it on backwards. Then she learned to pretty much vault herself out, so that was it.

The first few nights were a struggle keeping her in her bed, but she adjusted pretty quickly. We also had to rush to babyproof her room that she shares with her sister since we were totally not ready (her sister was in a crib until she was 3.5 and never climbed out!)

Help! Jumping out of cribs

No I wish the back side was higher... it is, but barely... maybe an inch. They're climbing out, definitely not bouncing out. I saw DD #2 do it finally. She puts one leg up, then the other, and cries and whimpers in fear as she gently lowers herself down Chat Icon I have a feeling DD#1 got spooked when she did it, because she hasn't done it since.
Someone suggested a tent at the top of their crib. ??
Chat Icon thanks for the advice.
