Help! Dora Meltdowns!
Can any of you help? My DD just turned 2 last month and up till now has been a relatively easy going toddler. However, for the past week or so she literally wants to watch Dora ALL DAY long and throws a hissy fit if I don't let her. I am at the end of my rope and can't take her crying for hours on end but I also don't want her watching TV all day long. Did any of your kids go through this and is there a way to alleviate the tantrums??

Re: Help! Dora Meltdowns!
Once in a while Sarah gets like this and I tell her that Dora (or whichever character) is taking a nap and that they can't come on the tv. It's been working so far. And I got a lot of books with Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, etc so that we can read those and she's still seeing the characters she likes but it's more interactive.

Re: Help! Dora Meltdowns!
def...he becomes obsessed with a show or a video and asks for it all day long. "ming-ming", elmo , the dancing video....sometimes I ignore him and he forgets. Sometimes I give in and sometimes I tell him they are sleeping!

Re: Help! Dora Meltdowns!
Our TV meltdowns were in the morning. I used to have to run to the remote to turn it off before they announced the next show was on or there would be screaming when I turned it off.
The way I eliminated it was to eliminate all TV in the mornings before school.
If you turn off Dora but play something else, would that help?
At 2, the tantrums are more about communication. You can say "I know you're upset. I would be too but we have a schedule. It's not TV time. It's play time - do you want to color or cook with Mommy?" Giving her choices makes her feel independent. You can also set a timer for the TV. When it goes off, give her the job of turning off the TV.
One thing I defiitely believe is nip it in the bud now or it's going to be much worse & more difficult.
