Help! DH is really sick

DH *attempted* to go to work this morning - he came home about an hour after he left for work - he just couldn't do it.

So, he stayed home all day and when I came home from work he looked awful - he tried to sleep during the day, has been throwing up but also - he has flu-like symptoms - uncontrollably cold and feverish - I have been giving him Motrin and then Aleve.

I made him tea and bundled him up but a few minutes ago he got out of bed and could not stop shaking - physically - he was SO cold - I didn't know what else to do and put him in a VERY hot bath - What should I do for him??

I don't even know what he has - it isn't just stomach - it is his head too. Chat Icon He NEVER gets sick like this - OK I'm rambling - any advice??? Chat Icon

It sounds like he has a fever and that is making him cold. Make sure he has plenty of liquids and keep an eye on him. You have to wait until the fever breaks. If you feel he is getting worse, you can take him to the hospital. Also, some Gatorade may be good to replenish his electrolites. Chat Icon

Re: Help! DH is really sick

Thats what I had last year with the stomach virus, a high fever for 2 days, along with the nausea and vomiting.

Dont put him in a hot bath, even if he is cold. It will only rais his body temp. Make him take a lukewarm bath, or put cool damp washclothes on him to help bring down the fever.

You can alternate tylenol with motrin or advil every 4 hours.

Give him fluid like gatorade to keep him hydrated.

Hope he feels better!

like she said with the bath putting on to many blankets can also raise his temp. put cool cloths behind his neck, knees, arm pitts, and two on each side of the groin area. hope her feels better

Definitely sounds like stomach flu. If he can hold down fluids, give him plenty, and the cold compresses, too. I'd stay away from Aleve, though. It can aggravate your stomach on a good day. Tylenol is a great fever reducer, and it shouldn't aggravate his stomach. Hope he feels better soon!

I gave DH NyQuil because i thought it would be better for his stomach. It worked and he slept for 22 hours and during that time the fever broke. Hope DH feels better soon. It took my DH about 4 days to start to feel right.Chat Icon
