HELP-DD not peeing and afraid of potty!!

I just don't know what to do...DD was almost completely potty trained...then she seemed to get some sort of irritation "down there"...when she'd get on potty she'd SCREAM when the pee starting coming out, then she'd hold it...and she'd really only let it go till she pooped and it came out anyway (in her pull up or panties).

Friday I called her Ped, who told me it sounded like a form of vaginitis, typical in her age group from wearing pull-ups, not properly wiping and/or irritation from toilet paper, etc. She suggested warm baths with no soap, letting it "air out" as much as possible. We tried that all afternoon friday, and she peed about 6:30 pm and it was bright orange. We took that sample to PM Pediatrics and tried to get her to pee in a cup there, for a sterile sample. That didn't work. They finally tested the non-sterile sample, and it was "fine" - no infections. We went home, and she did not pee again all night, and all morning Saturday. If we put her on the potty, she SCREAMED. I called the PED again, who basically said, she'll go eventually...which she finally did about 1:30 PM, in her pullup. She peed once more yesterday evening, again in her pull up.

She hasn't peed since....She screams and cries hysterically if I try to put her on the potty (we have BOTH a small potty for her and a seat for the big potty)...she told me she doesn't like the potty...

She's eating, she's drinking, she has no fever, but we are 100% UN potty trained, and she's holding her pee for HOURS AND HOURS...I don't know what to do anymore!!!

Has anyone gone through anything similar? How do I get her to not hold her pee anymore? How do I get her un-afraid of the potty again??

TIA for any ideas, experiences or thoughts!

Re: HELP-DD not peeing and afraid of potty!!

We went through this with Jordan when she was little. She was worse with poopy though. She typically pooped 2 times a day. Suddenly after a few weeks of potty training, she went on strike. She would hold in her pee and poopy for ever.(she got 2 uti's from it) Then she did not poop for FIVE days. The Dr made us give her laxitives and was going to give her an enima(sp?) if she did not poop in 24 hours. He said to let the potty training go for a while(basically put her back in a diaper for a bit) and see how that went. It killed me to do that but I did. 8 weeks later she woke up one day and told me that she did not like wearing diapers, they were uncomfortable and she was going to wear underwear from now on. Well.... that was it, she put on her panties and NEVER had an accident including bedtime. It was all a mental thing with her and I was glad I took the Dr's advice.

Re: HELP-DD not peeing and afraid of potty!!

I worked with a family who had a little boy who was afraid of pooping in the potty. What worked for him to get over the fear was - he would sit on the potty, and poop wearing the pull up - just to get him over the fear and do it comfortably. Maybe she can wear her pull up but pee on the potty anyway?
