Help!! Contstipated 3 year old TMI
DS has always been pretty regular so we've never really dealt with this before. He is doing pretty good on potty training except he won't poop on the potty. When he knows he has to go #2 he tells us he needs a pull-up. I've been hesitant to tell him no more pull-ups b/c I was afraid he would get constipated.
At any rate, this evening he said he needed a pull-up so we put one one and went to his room to "hide" (his word.). 5 minutes later he came out crying. I went to change him and there is a hard poop halfway out his bum. I don't know what to do. I will give him juice, but not sure how long that will take to kick in. What do I do? I feel so bad for him.

Fleet pedialax glycerin suppositories worked great for my very backed up ds
It's a liquid and makes them poop within a few minutes

Have you tried Miralax? When DD was potty training, she'd get backed up and my pediatrician said Miralax worked well. We tried it and it did the trick! You can mix it with their chocolate milk

I swear by prune juice! Its not that great as far as taste but does wonders.

Pear juice or prune juice. I give my DS the by food prunes. I know he's 3, but he likes it and it works.

Thanks so much for the ideas!
We let him watch videos on DH iPod and suddenly he didn't seem as unhappy.  I gave him some apple juice and I'm hoping by tomorrow morning he'll be able to pass it. I'm also planning on picking up that supository to have on hand. I just felt so bad for him. What a horrible feeling!!!

We give our DC a spoonful of Benefiber in his juice 2x a day - works great.

Help!! Contstipated 3 year old TMI
We had to give DS benefiber too. when it was bad, we gave him "special juice" - prune juice. He liked it cold. I got the 4 pack of cans so he thought he was hot "poop" (pun intended) that he could drink out of the can.

I give my DD prune juice she loves it, she really lieks teh 4 pack of gerber prune apple juice but will drink prune juice on its own.
I tried Benefiber it gave my DD to much gas she would scream her belly hurt after i gave it to her. I tried different amounts and it still bothered her.

I second Miralax! DD will be 3 next week and we have been dealing with her getting backed up because she holds her poop. She also pees on the potty and will sometimes poop on the potty but ever since potty training, she holds her poop and gets really backed up and constipated We put Miralax in her milk at the recommended dose from the pediatrician. The instructions says to put it in clear fluids (juice, water) but we have had better luck with it in her milk.
