Help a Lancaster virgin out

Thinking of going for 2 nights/3 days with dh, dd1 (3) and dd2 (14months).

Would stay at Eden. Thinking drive down in the morning and go straight to turkey hill experience. Buggy ride. Then go check into hotel and relax, swim, etc.

Next day full day at Dutch wonderland. Is it okay with the 14 month old? A lot of stuff says no hand held infants. I see there's lots of shows though and some family rides we can all go on together.

Next day thinking hitting the Hershey store, ride, etc on the way back. Or maybe Philly but that's kinda out of the way.

Go! I think the only rides she will be able to go on is ones where you can go on with her but I think she would still enjoy it. We stopped in Philly on the way home (Please Touch ,then DH wanted cheese steaks lol). Enjoy!

Help a Lancaster virgin out

We just went with an almost 3 year old, a 2 year old, and a 17 month old. Everyone had a blast (even with the ridiculous heat - 105+ heat index!) We stayed for 3 days, 2 nights. We only did DW and we stayed at Eden. If we had to do it again, we would have done 4 days, 3 nights so we could have relaxed a bit more.

Re: Help a Lancaster virgin out

I think you might be planning too much with such little ones. Hanging at the pool at Eden and doing DW for a day would be enough to exhaust them. I went when my kids were 4 and 14 months and they were just happy to be in a hotel that had a playground and pool, the DW trip was a bonus. You may wind up running around so much you'll need a vacation after your vacation!

Yeah. The turkey hill thing is only like an hour. Dw one day. Hershey store on the way home. Not the whole park.

We went when DS 2 was 15 months and he could go on a lot - including the log flume.

We did the pool for a bit when we arrived and then did the preview at DW the night we got there (3 hrs before the park closed). The next day we went to DW when it opened and spent the afternoon at the pool again. I liked the preview because the park was fairly empty then.

Oh interesting about the preview. That sounds perfect.

I'm assuming your 15 month old was walking though. Dd2 isn't walking.

I agree with the PP. It does sound like a busy three days. We got there at 3 and relaxed by the pool until 5. We then did the preview for 1.5 hours and got dinner. The next day, we did the park from about 10-3. We went back to the hotel and the kids took naps and then we did dinner. The next day, we did the pool from 10-12:30 and then went home. If we go again, we'd stay another day so we could take advantage of the resort.

Re: Help a Lancaster virgin out

We just got back. This was our itinerary:

Day 1) Strasburg rr, dinner at millers, dw preview
Day 2) dw til lunch, the outlets, dinner
Day 3) bird-in-hand farmers market, kitchen kettle

We went with a 7 month old and 3.5 year old. I think there's enough rides for an 18 month old to either ride with you or go on with older sibling.

We just got back Tuesday. We had 2 families. 2 -5 year olds, 11 month old, 2 month old. Trip was really for the 5 year olds, 11 month old didn't go on anything really besides got a little wet at DW.

Day 1-We drove in Saturday, did Cherry Crest Farms in the afternoon. Then Good and Plenty for dinner, then hotel pool after dinner
Day 2- did Dutch wonderland all day, dry in the morning, wet in the middle afternoon, then a few rides on the way out. Dinner at Iron Hill Brewery
Day 3- Turkey Hill in the morning/early afternoon. Pretzels at Immergut, went to kitchen kettle, then a furniture store, ate dinner and went home (way too late)

I thought the Turkey hill experience was crazy and skippable if you get too busy. I prefer the railroad.

He was walking but, we either carried him or put him in a stroller since he wouldn't walk the way we wanted him to!

He went on anything we could go on with him as well as Duke's Dozers (they move really slow and he went on with his brother).

Help a Lancaster virgin out

Ok so ran into a snafu lol. I was planning on driving down Labor Day morning and spending two nights at Eden. That's when the parks close during the weekdays. Ugh. Should have known when the huge 2 bedroom suite was only $165 versus $600 the night before lol.

Is it too much to drive down Labor Day morning and do dw that day? Then the next day hang at the hotel and Amish country etc.

Hershey is also closed. But I was only planning on doing the store. Wonder if that would be open.

Or scratch the whole idea and go somewhere else. Or go the week before during the week when the hotel is a lot more expensive.

We drove down one year and went straight to DW and it was fine. We still only did about a half day though before the kids were worn out.

I would only do DW the day you drive down if you are early risers and know that you can get there early. Traffic heading west has been atrocious this summer. Every major artery seems to have construction and while they won't be working on Labor Day many of the cones, closures etc. could still be in place for safety reasons.

Or I guess you could do it if you don't care whether or not you get much out of it. A mid afternoon arrival could still get you several hours at the park. For my DS he loves rides and has a lot of stamina so I would only be interested in the full day, or at least most of it. But your kids are younger.

By the Hershey store I assume you mean Chocolate World. That is pretty much always open.

Check hours of everything before you go because some attractions are not open daily - i.e. Kitchen Kettle Village is closed on Sundays.

Your kids are the perfect age for Lancaster and Dutch Wonderland. You could check out Zoomerica or Hershey Gardens. Both are nice walks and kids should enjoy.

You can totally do that. However, we decided this year to leave at like 5 am- otherwise you hit horrendous traffic.
So we left at like 515 am, got to Lancaster around 845 or so and had breakfast.
You could then totally do the park when it opens at 10 am.
This way you beat all the rush hour horrendousness that is leaving LI/NY!

Thanks everyone! I think we still may go. Dd1 is hit or miss with rides so a half day at dw (or Hershey?) should be fine. We can do the zoo, kitchen kettle, buggy ride, gardens, chocolate world and just enjoy the pool and hotel.

This is what we did as well. Got there early by 9am and hung out for a little until the park opened.

Not sure if you're only going Labor Day due to the pricing at Eden, but there are other hotels, you wouldn't know it by looking at this board.

We did Eden last year, it was great, but this year due to timing, the pricing was high, so we were at the Steamboat Inn. Clean and nice enough, cheaper. small indoor pool.

We've also stayed at the Best western by Kitchen kettle, and that had a bigger indoor pool, also clean and well priced. They had a 2BR room for around $200 at the time.
Just saying there are options. I don't think anything compares to the pool/outdoor situation at Eden.

if you are early risers, you definitely could go to DW on the day of. Especially if you don't do many stops or long stops.
