Re: heavy topic.....was wondering what u thought
at this point, i am of the mindset that the sunnis and the shiites in iraq have been involved in a civil war for many, many years, and nothing we do now is going to change that.
i don't know how i feel about us having gone there in the first place, i believe it was a good thing that we got sadaam out of there, but it left a bigger mess than when he was there. it's so heartbreaking and confusing
my feeling right now is, we aren't doing them any good by being there. they need to work this out themselves, without american soldiers getting killed trying to prevent the civil war from getting out of hand. if they want to suicide bomb themelves to smithereens, so be it. i would like the new president to bring all the troops home.

I agree. My only concern right now is some kind of retaliation in 18 years.

Re: heavy topic.....was wondering what u thought
I think it's a great idea in theory to pull all of the troops out and bring 'em on home, but it's not realistic. We still have troops placed all over the world from past wars (Germany is a perfect example)... so unfortunately, war or no war, I think our troops will always have a presence there.

Re: heavy topic.....was wondering what u thought
I think while it never should have been started, we're there.
We need to reduce our presence while leaving the new "government" we put in place with a fighting chance of their own. The last thing I want to see is that government topple to a worse dictator than they had before.
I wish there was a quick & easy solution but the time for that was March 2003.

Re: heavy topic.....was wondering what u thought
I think we need to start pulling out, but slowly. My fear, and I'm not sure if this is logical, is that if we leave them to deal w/ this themselves, we would just be creating an environment that would lead to more killing and growing power of extremists or something. I don't think you can trash a place and just leave it that way. However, I do feel that they need to start policing themselves more and not relying on us so much. We need to start getting out of there, not putting more people in. I do feel that they still need to find Osama and I feel that that has been pushed to the side because of Iraq.

Re: heavy topic.....was wondering what u thought
There's no way we can pull out completely and safely (that sounds kind of sexual). As much as I would love it, we can't--for our own safety and the safety of the Iraqis. John McCain said we'll be in Iraq for the next 100 years and he's right--we still have US bases in Japan and Germany--and that war ended 60 years ago, so while we may not be "fighting" (which I for...) we will still be there--in some way or another. I'm not voting for McCain, but I do think he is the most straightforward about the mess that we're in over there and I do think that he has a conscience, unlike SOMEONE we know (cough-BUSH-cough...).
On another note--I was really proud of Hillary last night.

I agree with the fact that the war should never have started, but it did and now we really do need to take responsibility for what we did. I am in complete disagreement with the war, but I also think that pulling out of there too quickly will be far worse.

i agree with this and as someone else stated this is what McCain meant when he said something about being there for 100 years, also i think the other two candidates have admitted it is pretty much impossible to start pulling troops out immediately, its just not gonna happen, but hopefully whoever is elected will start doing it as soon as it is possible
