Re: Heartburn...
Tums didn't do anything for me so I take Mylanta II when it is happening and I take Zantac to prevent it.

Re: Heartburn...
I don't know WHAT I would do without my TUMS!! I never experienced heartburn before I was pregnant - I feel like my esophagus is on FIRE - sometimes even after drinking WATER!!! I bought a super-sized bottle from Costco and keep it by my bedside table. I also keep a smaller bottle at work and one in my purse. HOPE IT HELPS KELLY!!!

Re: Heartburn...
I have some vinegar. I'll have a salad or something and put lots of vinegar on it.
I 've heard this is a natural remedy. I've also heard that Tums makes it worse in the long run.
I'm trying to take no meds during this pregnancy.

Tums and my Dr. recommended Maalox for at night to coat my eosaphagus(sp.).
But, so far I'm doing okay with the Tums.

Re: Heartburn...
Personally, I found Tums to be a joke - I use them now only for the sake of extra calcium, otherwise, I'd stick them in a candy dish as an after dinner mint for guests.
I tried Maalox - that was okay, but still had heartburn. The Maalox was okay for calming a sour stomach though.
I tried Zantac... after an entire night of NO SLEEP (rare side effect: insomnia) I was ready to give up and accept heartburn as a burden of pregnancy with no answer.
THEN... Darling DH saved my life... he read an article that said that RAW ALMONDS are a natural remedy for heartburn. I laughed, but we both agreed I had nothing to lose and either my heart burn would stop or at least I'd get some protein.
I started bringing a bag of raw almonds in the car with me and had a small handful here and there throughout the day - you won't believe NO HEARTBURN!!!! I was shocked. Sometimes first thing in the morning I have a little reflux, but the almonds seem to take care of that and I can enjoy life (somewhat) again. I had the largest burst of energy on my first heartburn free day.
Hope this helps others as it did for me. I actually mentioned it to my doctor so that he could tell other preggos to give it a try. Like I said, if it helps then it's a great thing, if not you get some added protein. I still do take the tums at night for calcium. I have heard that sometimes Tums can actually cause more reflux though, but it's a good Calcium suppliment.
