Heart rate and gender
What is your baby's range and what are you having? With DD it was high and I swore this is a boy, but the heart rate is in the 170's and 180's so now I'm thinking another girl!
Share yours - I'm curious.

Re: Heart rate and gender
When the tech at my 20 week told me that the HR was 144, I wondered... but they reassured me that HR really does not impact gender or vice versa. In fact the tech asked me what I thought the baby was and I said that I heard that HR over 140 meant girl, he said not to go by that. I didn't find out what I was having.

Re: Heart rate and gender
It def. depends on how far along you are and when you have a sono. I don't know what I'm having but baby's heartrate was 170s in the beginning, since then it has ranged from as low as 140 something but mostly 150-160. BUT, the time it was 140 I felt NO movement, and the tech could tell baby was resting - so clearly that accounted for a lower heartrate.

Re: Heart rate and gender
I tend to think this is just a wives' tale, but I have heard that there might be a connection between the two really late in the pregnancy.
When my 2nd DD was born, I had a scheduled c-section. For 2 hours prior, I was hooked up to an IV and monitors and her heartrate was strictly 165 or a bit higher. We told the nurse the gender was a surprise and just before I walked into surgery she took a look at the pages of the heartrate (you know the things the monitor spits out?) and said, "It's a girl." And guess what...

Re: Heart rate and gender
I am having a boy
8 weeks- 158 11 weeks-167 20 weeks-145 31 weeks-153
In the beginning I was convinced it was a girl because of the high heart rate but then it lowered at 20 weeks. When the doctor uses the doppler it is usually in the 140 range.

Re: Heart rate and gender
I read somewhere (maybe here) that the baby's heartbeat is typically twice the mothers.
Gender prediction based on heartbeat is an old wives tale that has never been proven to be true/accurate.

Re: Heart rate and gender
My son's heart beat ranged from 135-160...I dont think its an accurate predictor.

Re: Heart rate and gender
I had to have a fetal echocardiagram with this baby(DD#1 was born with a genetic heart defect) and I asked the cardiologist about this theory. She said it is complete and total B.S. She said there are so many variables that effect the heartrate minute to minute hour to hour including whether or not the baby is sleeping, the position of the baby, the gestational age of the baby etc. But with that being said DD#1 was 160's to 170's and this was 150's to 160's.

Don't know the gender of DC#2 yet, but at my last appt (16 weeks) it was 140. I'm convinced it's a boy regardless of the heart rate.
