Hearing the heartbeat

At my first appointment I was 6w5d accoring to the sono measurements and at the second appt I was 10w5d. Each time we saw the flicker of the heartbeat but we still haven't heard it. My doc said you don't normally hear it until 12 weeks, but I keep seeing posts of girls hearing it pretty early on. My doc didn't seem too concerned, but for some reason I am still nervous about. Did anyone not hear it until at least 12 weeks?

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

It depends on what kind of sono was done. If it was external it takes a lot longer to hear the heartbeat. Internal I heard it at 7 weeks.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

I heard it at 10wks because that's when I switched over to the OB. The sono at my RE's office wasn't equipped to have sound.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

Thanks ladies! I know I shouldn't worry since my doc said its normal but between this and measuring almost a week smaller, I just get nervous. I have to go for the ultrascreen (which also kinda scares me lol) on Sat so I am praying I hear it then.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

I've had two ultrasounds, at 7w1d and 11w1d. Both were internal. Both times I saw the HB. I only heard it at the second ultrasound. They didn't even try at the first one, not sure why ... but I was just thrilled to SEE it, it didn't matter.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

I didn't hear it at my OB's office until 16 weeks on the doppler. Their U/S equipment was old and didn't have sound. When I had my NT scan at the hospital at 11w6d, I was able to hear it on their U/S machine because it was newer and had more features.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

With my DS the first time I saw and heard the HB was 8 weeks.

This time I heard and saw both heartbeats at 7 weeks. Saw them at 8, 9, and 10 weeks. But didn't hear them again until 12 weeks.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

I had an internal, which allowed us to hear the heartbeat at 6w2d. My RE said we wouldn't have been able to hear it on the doppler for a few more weeks.

It sounds like you may still be too early to hear it from an external sono. With external I didn't hear it until 12 weeks.

Re: Hearing the heartbeat

I heard it with an internal sono at 7 weeks but if your doctor wants to wait then I wouldn't worry. As long as you've seen it then you know it's there. Chat Icon Chat Icon
