My mom and I used to make the original recipe when I was a kid....so I decided to try make it healthier with some substitutions. My DH & I loved them and thought they were like tops of muffins, so I thought I'd share....

Cranberry Cookies
1/2 cup apple or pear butter
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c skim milk
2 1/2 cup fresh chopped cranberries
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
2 egg whites
3 cups wheat flour

Cream apple or pear butter, sugar and vanilla. Beat in milk and egg whites. Mix flour and dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture blending well. Stir in fruit. Mound 2 tbsp. of mixture on well greased cookie sheets spacing 2" apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-18 minutes.
Make approximately 3 1/2 dozen 3" cookies
