Headaches
I am curious, why is it bad to have headaches during pregnancy? I have had one on and off for the past day or two. I thought this was normal?
Should I be concerned?

Re: Headaches
It is pretty normal, your hormones are all wacky and your eating patterns have probably changed. You can take Tylenol.

No, but I am having pretty bad insomnia at night. I thought it was from being so tired, but I see some girls on here talking about rushing to the dr. for headaches. Ugh, I'm so nervous about everything

Re: Headaches
I think it is bad if you know you have high blood pressure. If it is just a headache, I would take tylenol.

Re: Headaches
totally normal. I had awful headaches from about week 11-14 or so. It was pretty much one constant headache that got worse. At one point it was so bad I couldn't get out of bed. Doctor said it was hormones.

Re: Headaches
Headaches during pregnancy is normal. During the first and begning of teh second trimester tehy are due to hormone rises in your body.
Make sure you are drinking AT LEAST 64 ozs of water a day. Headaches are the first sign of dehydration before being thirsty so drink a few glasses of water and wait a bit.
If you still have a headache I found that 1 extra strenght tylenol with a little caffeine works great.
If you are in the middle of your second trimester or third sever headaches can be a sing of toxemia so make sure to mention it to your physician!
Feel better!

Re: Headaches
I have a headache almost every day of my life. While they are normal, they could be a sign of something else, too. My doctor just started me on antibiotics b/c he thinks it is a sinus infection, so we'll see!

Re: Headaches
Headaches may be normal if they occur during the 1st and 2nd trimester. During the 3rd trimester, there is more cause for concern. I had bad headaches everyday for about 2 weeks and Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Release [two capsules] did not help them at all. When the Tylenol doesn't work, that is when your OB will get concerned about the posibility of you having preeclampsia. High BP, swelling in the face, hands, feet and legs, protein in the urine... these are all indicators of having preeclampsia.
The problem is that it is the pregnancy that is causing the high BP, headaches, etc. therefore, only delivering the baby would alleviate those symptoms. I was sent to L&D when I was 32 weeks for my headaches and high BP. My OB monitors me every week to make sure all is well. He also told me that now that I am 36 weeks, if my BP is too high, I will be induced for the health of my baby and myself. I was prescribed Tylenol with Codeine to handle my headaches.
Stay hydrated, eat every few hours to keep your blood sugar on an even keel and rest. If the headaches are not helped by Tylenol, and persist more than a few days- call your OB.
