Head banging during tantrums?
My 19 month old DS has begun throwing tantrums. Usually he bangs his head on the floor. Yesterday he walked over to the wall and started smashing his head into the wall so hard he almost took the picture down hanging above him. He has bruising on his forehead.
Does anyone have any experience in handling this? I'm not willing to give in to him to make him stop but I certainly don't want him to hurt himself. Short of making him wear a helmet at all times, does anyone have any ideas?

My ds used to bang his head all the time during tantrums. It made me so nervous. Everyone told me it was a phase. I even brought it up to the doctor and he said just let him do it and don't give in. So that's what I did and eventually he did stop.

Thank you! That's very reassuring. I don't know how I'm going out in public with this kid and his black and blue forehead!

Same exact thing. Once I started to ignore it, he stopped almost immediately.

Head banging during tantrums?
Dd is almost 3 and on bad tantrum days she will still do it but it has lessened dramatically. We actually set up the pnp and when ever she had a tantrum she went in there so she had something softer to bang on. The dr told me to put a pillow under her but that never worked she would move. We have had many of bruises from it. It's scary

My 19 month old DS is a head banger and has been since her was about 14 months. I used to think something was wrong with him because what kids would inflict pain on themselves like that?? But my ped suggested we ignore it and don't give him a reaction at all. I try not to but man he slams it against our wood floors and sometimes I cant help gasp. So far, he still does it but Im hoping he grows out of it soon. Sorry Im no help but if you find the cure, please let me know!
