HE Washers/Dryers - questions
I've been comparison shopping and I just can't decide what I want...
Which did you buy and why? Would you buy the same model again?
if you have a front loader: - is there an issue with moisture? do you do anything to prevent mold/mildew? - Do you have them on pedestals?
Any advice on the purchase is appreciated...

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
I have the top loaders Whirlpool Cabrio set. Love them!
I chose the top loader because I didn't want to deal with the front loader issue of having to leave the door open so that they dry out so you don't have the moldy smell.
I can fit my whole comforter in there if I need to - I'm very happy with my HE Cabrio set.

ditto this exactly! i also have the whirlpool cabrio set... i have the top loading HE washer, and front loading HE dryer. i like the top loading because its still HE, but doesnt have the problem with the mildew smell, etc-- and its easier for me to leave the door open so it can dry out in between loads. and i'm always amazed at how much stuff i can fit in there! we've had them for almost 2 years now with no problems.

I also have a top loader and I love it. I believe it's a Maytag.

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
I have a front-loading Kenmore. To prevent mold, I wipe out the plastic area where water accumulates at the end of each mold. I wipe the door too and I leave the door open so the rest of the water evaporates.
We had a Maytag before, and that got crazy mold/mildew and we had to get rid of it. They actually have several lawsuits for the one we have.
ETA: Ours is not on a pedestal because it is stacked with the dryer and it would be too high. However, if you don't have them stacked, I recommend the pedestal because my back hurts loading the machine because it's so low.

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
I liked the look and feel of the Cabrio washer, but I hated the user experience of the dryer - the opening/closing of the dryer door was awful. The Maytag version was slightly better.
I keep swinging back and forth, but at the moment, I'm preferring the front loaders.

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
We have the LG front load washer/dryer (not the steam version) - got the pedestals (BEST thing ever for front loaders). I like it but the wash cycles have gotten so long on the new HE machines.
My mom has a front loading White Westinghouse (now Frigidaire I think) that she loves - does 30 minute wash cycles and is true full size. She is getting a new one as the ball bearings finally crapped out (it was 20+ years old) and it is only $650 or so from PC Richards. I was shocked!!! Our LG was so much more $$ and honestly hers washing just as good - I have done laundry at her house many many a time...

I've been looking at that Samsung, but I have some concerns about the silver technology. While i love the concept, I worry about the environmental impact. Its still on my short list.

CR did a report on the technology Samsung is using and they seem to liked it... It was even on our local news a few months ago...

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
We have the Whirlpool Duet frontloader...on pedestals. I wipe down the washer and leave the door ajar to prevent the moisture buildup. I have no complaints and would purchase the same machines again.
Feel free to bring over a load to try them out ...or better yet, just come over to do my loads

We just got this set last week!! It had roughly the same water and energy saving as the front loading set I was looking at but 5.0 cubic feet capacity versus 3.5 for the front loader! I can do so many fewer loads of laundry!! I've only used it four times so far but I am very happy!

I have the same ones as well, i used to wipe down the door when i first got them, but i don't anymore. My machines are on the 2nd floor, and we have central air, in the laundry room so it never gets musty smelling

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
We have the LG steam washer and dryer on pedestals.
No issues with mold or mildew. I wipe down the plastic interior every week. I do about 8 loads a week. I occasionally run it on super hot with just bleach to clean it out.
I could take or leave the pedestals.
Pro - no real bending to load the machines.
Con - they're pretty high. If we didn't have the pedestals I would have built an enclosure around them so I could do folding and such on top of them. Now I have to make the laundry room bigger so I can fit a folding station in there (our basement is unfinished so I'm talking down the road).

Re: HE Washers/Dryers - questions
we replaced our washing maching with a front loader, I think its a GE. We bought the pedastal with it and I am glad. It would have been too low to the ground otherwise.
I have never wiped down the inside and never had had a mold problem. we have had the machine for at least a year now.
