HCG shot
Does it hurt? I have mine tonight at 10:30 and the needle looks serious.

i was soooo scared to give myself the shot, my DH gave it to me and it didnt even hurt. dont look at it, thats the worst part!

is yours IM?? many HCG shots are sub-q which are just like all of the other injects. if yours is IM its not that bad and its a good precursor if you will have to do PIO.

Yep mine is IM and I also have to do PIO starting Monday after the retrieval

Yep mine is IM and I also have to do PIO starting Monday after the retrieval
for me I had an IM HCG inject following my ER (my trigger was lupron due to high follicle count to avoid OHSS). the nurse at my ER administered and it was nothing. PIO was way worse but in neither case the shot itself isn't so bad. for PIO the side effects are way worse than the shot itself. and of course the nurse was slightly better at administering than DH in his first few tries!!

What are the side effects of the PIO?
Am I okay to ice the area first before the HCG shot ?

Very exciting!! Hope for great follies, eggs, maturation, embryos, etc!
Some people have PIO side effects, others do not. Because its an IM shot, you can feel muscle soreness (think dead leg or charlie horse sore), it's an oil (peanut or sesame) so make sure to look for any adverse skin reactions, after injecting, massage the area after the shot to try and avoid the egg like nodules or lumps that can form. If they do form, do not inject in the same area.
I usually warm the oil in my hand or warm water, inject in upper outer butt quadrant, then use a heating pad after. Do not ice after the injection. Have fun!
