HCG level- updated- (need additional help)

Hi.

My blood work came back as being a 14 HCG level. I am currently 2 days late with my period. The dr. said that I can go either way- pregnant or miscarriage.

Does anyone have experience with numbers similar to 14?

TIA

I just went to Target and bought a CBEPT thinking that if yesterday my hcg level was 14 and it needs to be 20 to be detected. . . .
a- if the test is pos - it is increasing
b- if the test is neg- it is decreasing

BFP!!!!

So,

Sun- 2 BFP
Mon- 2 BFN
Tues- bloodwork= 14hcg
Wed= 1 BFP

WHAT IS GOING ON????

Re: HCG level- Help!

hopefully you miscalculated your ovulation date and or had a late implanter!

Re: HCG level- Help!

anything over 5 is pregnant...

that is a low # but stranger things have happened. when is your next beta? it's the doubling that matters (should double about every 48 hours).

Re: HCG level- Help!

On Friday and Saturday I had brown spotting- which I later assumed was implantation bleeding.?.?.?

2 BFPs on Sunday
2 BFNs on Sunday and Monday
which is why I had bloodwork done. They are telling me that it can really go either way because it is too early to tell.

Any one with similar experiences?

ITA. I think it is hard to know anything until you have 2 days worth of numbers to compare.Chat Icon Chat Icon

hmm. to be 100% honest it sounds like your HCG levels are going down. most tests are sensitive for #s of 20 and above. that's why your most recent tests were BFNs.

but there is no real way to tell. the waiting stinks - i hope your levels increase next visit!!

Re: HCG level- Help!

Both my pregnancies started off with low HCG and depressing warnings from ob's not to get my hopes up. My first pg, the inital HCG level was 27... that little boy is 2 1/2 now! My current pg, the initial HCG was 22 I think... I'm over 16 wks along now.

The first one, I think it was a late implanter. The second one, I KNEW I had ovulated extremely late in my cycle and was testing kind of early.

i would think this is a good sign...

so you were tested yesterday morning, it was a 14.

you just took a HPT, needs to be 20 or more, and it was positive. so that means your hcg levels have to have increased, if only by a little.

what kind of test you initially used could make a difference. i have *heard* that blue dye tests can give a false positive.

i know this is so frustrating but hopefully you will have an answer by tomorrow afternoon after your second beta.

yes, HPTs only detect levels of 20 or higher

http://www.peeonastick.com

ETA: actually i think some can detect levels of 15 or higher but the box will tell you what each one does.

I think that sometimes the test can pick up a very low amount of HCG.. are the lines you are getting super light?

When do you get another blood test? If you had spotting this weekend maybe you were implanting late?

Re: HCG level- updated- (need additional help)

I am taking the digital pregnancy tests. Are those the most accurate?

Next blood test is tomorrow.

I think the best thing to do is wait for the numbers tomorrow. The tests can vary in the amounts of HCG they pick up.

they are all accurate, but typically, digital tests are less sensitive - so a positive test is a good sign.

good luck tomorrow Chat Icon

THANKS!

Im reading the insert and the CBE test does not specify the level of HCG that it detects.

if your levels double every two days then it seems that a jump of 6 may or may not show anything definitive. It does show that you have the HCG to get the test to show a BFP. I'd still wait to see what the Dr gets for your doubling results.Chat Icon

if you take it in the morning, it's possible your dr could have the results by that afternoon, but i would ask - every office is different.

CB digital detects a min of 50mIU so that's a really good sign. You will know for sure Friday and I am sure you will be celebrating this weekend Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
