Having to buy everything yourself...

Im not complaining but it is so annoying that this time around every single thing - I have to buy myself! We need so much!

I had a big baby shower for my first
A sprinkle for my 2nd - Both boys!
I do not by any means expect another get together for this baby so maybe I am just venting that I have to buy EVERYTHING for this baby since we are having a girl this time! And a lot of it is my own fault LOL!

Oh well, pity party over..

Thanks

Re: Having to buy everything yourself...

I have to do the same thing (I don't have to buy the big things though ~ I saved them from DS and we bought gender neutral if we were blessed with #2 ~ I do need a couple of the bigger things because they are shot from DS but only a couple of things) ~ this is my 2nd ~ I am feeling overwhelmed actually! I am toying with the fact of registering (just for the completion coupons and to organize what I need) but I don't want anyone to think I expect something either. So torn Chat Icon

Re: Having to buy everything yourself...

yeah its frustrating.....especially on top of knowing I have a $5,000 medical deductible I'll be going through on top of it.

with 1st ds I only had a sprinkle - there was alot we had to buy.....

now with #2 - we don't know the sex yet but we know less people so I pretty much know there isn't a sprinkle..........

Still registering though, at least I'll get a completer coupon and my parents/inlaws will get some stuff.

definitely register! Just because you're not having a shower doesn't mean people don't want to buy you gifts.

Just out of curiosity why do you need to buy EVERYTHING for this one? Did you get rid of the items you had from your boys? You are lucky you had 2 showers! I only had one and barely got anything off my registry!

Re: Having to buy everything yourself...

I'm not preggo yet but I had a shower with my first and had to buy everything with my other 3. Soon as I got a BFP I opened a separate checking account for shopping. By the time I was 7.5 or 8 mos I would do one big shopping trip. It didn't seem as overwhelming since every time DH and I would get paid we would deposit money that account. I started depositing money last month hoping that we conceive our last one soon!

I guess I don't know what else you have to buy. I am team green again and have everything from DS. All of the big things are neutral. I basically have to get diapers, wipes and the creams and bath stuff.

It is actually for this reason that I registered or bought a lot of gender neutral stuff with my first. Pretty much all the big things we have are green, yellow, or red. Of course, clothes are a different story.

Do you really need to buy new stuff? Can you make do with what you have even if the color or pattern is not girly?

Re: Having to buy everything yourself...

I would use a lot of the old stuff even if it wasn't the "right" color. Im not a pink person so even if I had a girl not much would be pink.

Re: Having to buy everything yourself...

I've been buying since 20 weeks this way it doesn't hit me all at once. I've spent over 500 on gear and I still need to buy doube stroller and a couple of smaller items. I'm having another girl this time around so I've saved some money on clothes but I've still spent 400 on clothing for my new dd. I want her to have her own things too not just hand me downs. I had a big shower with my first so I do not expecxt anything. My parents/ brother/ grandma will buy some stuff but its not expected.

I'm a girl and I love the color blue. I don't see why a lot of the bigger items (like stroller, car seat, high chair, crib, etc) can't be reused. So what if they are not gender neutral or girl oriented? Your baby is not going to know the difference. That way you only have to spend for the items you care about (new clothes, girls bedding, or whatever else).

Hi-
We are looking to sell some of DD's stuff that she's outgrown. Everything was very lightly used and in like new condition.
FM me if you feel comfortable. I may have some things you need.

Re: Having to buy everything yourself...

I have a DS and am having a DD this time. I have most of the big ticket items from my son, so that is great. I am re-using his carseat too.

We were blessed with a sprinkle for this baby two weeks ago and got gift cards and maybe 3 things from my list of things I needed. It all comes in so handy, but the fact of the matter is that there was still a LOT of stuff I needed to buy. I went on Saturday to BBB and used my registry completion coupon to get 10% off of everything I still really needed. It was a LOT of money. A LOT. The new stroller alone was $500. Plus then I needed a lot of little things and I was shocked at how much it all added up to. The gift cards helped of course, but it was so much more than I thought we would be spending.

So I get you! This is also not counting all the clothes I've been buying lol. I didn't really have gender neutral stuff with DS, so I had to get all new stuff for the baby.

But it is what it is. And think of it this way - you didn't have to buy a ton for your two sons, so spending for 1 child isn't so bad when you have 3, kwim?

I hear ya, I am probably going to have to get a lot of stuff myself as well. I know for sure definitely we are going to buy the furniture, but I am having a small shower so I don't anticipate a lot of stuff I need getting bought.
