Having a garage sale

For those of you that have had garage sales, how did you organize everything leading up to the sale. Where did you keep everything that you were planning on selling?

Any tips or pointers for a successful sale?

Put like things together. Def. put price stickers on everything before the day you are doing it and price to sell. If you don't want it and don't want to throw it away, price to sell. If someone doesn't like the price, tell them to make an offer. This way everyone is happy. Have good signs up also. GL! Chat Icon Oh and make sure you have other people there to help you out. And plastic bags too. I can't believe how many people asked for a bag. GL and have fun! Chat Icon

A lot of people drive by and decide to stp based on that. So things in good condition should be towards the front especially furniture and other big items.

Re: Having a garage sale

Good signage in town, be ready early (the die hards will be there before your posted time), priced to sell (do you want to make a million or get rid of the stuff), the beginning of the first day, you do not have to take any offers and tell them, priced as marked, I just started. Check back later or tomorrow if you want a deal. Some people will be rude, you have to be stern with them. Have a "free" box at the curb clearly marked with things that you just don't want, are broken or not selling. Have a 25 cent or 50 cent box filled with small stuff. People like to rumage for that treasure. Set your tables so people can walk around on both sides and not on your lawn (if you don't want them too). I change prices as I go and as I see what gets passed up. Lay a blanket on the ground and just pile your old clothes (go through your closets for an extra few bucks). Go through your make up and put a bin for 25 cents a piece (sounds completely gross but people buy it and I find it fascinating!), lotions, soaps, body sprays, used or not, people buy that stuff up! You will have stuff stolen so keep a good eye on things and people. It happens. Don't worry about neatness in arranging like store. Just lay it all flat on tables so people can just scan through. Condense as you sell. And you'll get the hang of reading people, if they really want something and are about to put it down, shout out, make me an offer (or give them a lower price of what it is). Do not over communicate. People will ask you if they need something. I just sit at my little table with a cup of coffee and wait for the buyers. Save up your grocery bags to offer so people buy more. Be careful of scammers, wanting to pay quickly when you are bombarded with a morning rush, trying to make deals while you are with other people, paying for each item as they go to take your attention away from their partner in crime. If they are loading up their arms, offer to hold it at your table. You can add it up and round it down to make a deal.

Have fun and have people over to help and keep you company and order pizza. It's fun! Good luck!
