He actually wrote In The Heights and the main character in the play is presumably named after her, Vanessa. They grew up together in Washington Heights. A friend of mine actually played "Vanessa" when he
re-prised his role as "Usnavi" when the show toured in LA.
He is super talented and that was so touching. How cute was her dad?
