Have you done pilates?
I heard Pilates is good for losing weight and toning.... Is this true? Have any of you had success stories with this? Can anyone recommend a place near Massapequa?

i heart pilates! it def tones you up! i teach yoga at a studio in wantagh that also has pilates and the instructors are terrific. FM for details if you'd like!

I think it's good for lengthening, stretching, and a little bit of toning, but it's not going to get rid of body fat imo.

I love Pilates! It doesn't burn a huge amount of calories so it's not good for losing weight, but the muscles you have will look longer and leaner with Pilates, and your posture will improve so you'll look thinner from that too. For getting fat off, though, you'll need cardio 3 or more times a week, and you can add Pilates on different days or after the cardio.

I was in the best shape of my life when i was doing pilates regularly. I was combining it w/ cardio and weight training, but my abs were flat and toned and I really believe that was all pilates.

I started doing Pilates back in February. It's great for toning and working your muscles, and I've seen a big difference with my stomach being more toned (I also take cardio during the week). I go to the Y in Bay Shore and love the class.

I have been taking matt pilates 1x a week since October 08. Somtimes it is hard and sometimes it is not but I am sticking with it bc it breaks up my normal routine (cardio + weights) and helps with my form for running. I dont know if I notice a difference but I really enjoy the class and different type of challenge.
I kinda wish there was something like yogalates - I should invent this! It would be geared toward runners and would be a lot of leg stretches and core and back work. Somtimes in pilates we do leg work and rotating things that I dont really like. I guess they are important.

My gym used to have a yogalates classed which I LOVED! It had all the good parts of pilates and yoga and none of the ones I find annoying

Oh man I wish I could find somewhere that did this! 1 hr yoga is good but sometimes boring so it would be great to incorporate some core work too!
