Hate that my family is OOS
It sucks! I miss everything, and its such a PITA to go up to Boston to see them (4h drive). I really wanted to be with my family for Mother's day, as we have been with my IL's for the past 3 years on this day, but my DD has been very sick all week and I just can't bring myself to stick her in a car for 8h. DS is on the boardline of getting sick now too.
I makes me so sad that we spend most weekends with IL's having dinners, etc. and quick visits but I only get to see my family 1xmonth.
Money is tight with my parents and its costly for them to come to NY so they don't make the drive too often. It just sucks sometimes...and I get sick of always being around my IL's sometimes...

Re: Hate that my family is OOS
I know it not how you wanted to spend mother's day but (1) at least you have IL's you get along with and (2) no one said mother's day HAD to be on Sunday. As long as you get a card before the stores put them away, you can celebrate next weekend or the weekend after.
My sis is OOS and my mom wants to "meet in the middle" Not how I wanted to spend MD but its a good compromise. I'm planning on having a "mommy and DS special day" next weekend - just the 2 of us.

I hear you! My parents live in Texas, and with DD and another on the way, I dont get to see them but maybe 2 times a year. My grandmother is 93 and lives with them so they cant come here either. I hate it.

Re: Hate that my family is OOS
Its challanging but I make it up once a year. or him down to us. We don't put much value in any of the specific holidays. It would be too much pressure.
I drove a total of 26hrs to see my dad just a week or so ago (one way). Mapquest has it as a 17hr drive 1071 mi.
Totally worth it.
I'm sorry you're bummed.
For us we always think of it as this, so what we miss that sunday or that Tuesday. What time we do spend with them, we make up for all of that and more. Since they live in such a cold place we NEVER visit for thanksgiving and xmas. Never will either. But they can come down (tho I doubt it since its nasty to drive in) But we spend a solid week or two in the summer, when its less stressful for everyone, good weather and basically more fun! haha
In NY I had to fly to Omaha and drive 4hrs north from there. Now I'm in TX and its still a drive all the way or fly up and drive 4hrs. There is absolutely positively no direct flight near them.
I'd gladly trade you for a 4hr drive to a major city
