Has anyone used...
those blank checks that come w/ your credit card bills? I keep on getting these checks and am wondering if anyone has used them ---do they get charged as a charge transaction or cash advance?
Thanks

Re: Has anyone used...
I shred them as soon as i get them. They are usually viewed as a cash advance and have very high interest rates.

Re: Has anyone used...
I used them once and relized it was a BIG mistake!! I tried to pay back the cash that I took out and they applied the payment to my regular balance so I had this balance on the card where I was paying twice the amount in interest that I would have if I had used the card as a credit card!!

I used one once but I made sure the interest rate was 0% for the life of the advance and there was no fee for using it.

Re: Has anyone used...
I have used them a couple of times as a balance transfer. The checks offered me a rate of 0% and my other credit card had several thousand dollars on it at a rate of 18-19%. So it saved me money.
I called the company offering the checks to find out what fees went along with it and what their policy was on it. Most places charge a certain percent of what ever fee you're paying off...but if you have all the facts, it can be worth it.

Re: Has anyone used...
I have never used them, and always throw them away--but am considering using one check for an adoption expense since the adoption agency does not accept credit cards. I haven't decided yet...I appreciate your comments!

Re: Has anyone used...
I think you should read the fine print. Sometimes they have really good interest rates on balance transfers without any fees until you pay them off. I would read before you shred.

Re: Has anyone used...
I shred them and then ask that they not be sent to me at all. I am paranoid about someone taking them out of my mail and using them.
