Re: Has anyone tried hypnobirthing?!
I did it last time around. It was all about how to relax, breathe, basically hypnotize yourself to reduce perception of pain. I ended up with a c section, but it did help me to fall asleep and relax in general.

I dont know if this is a class you take or how expensive it is but it kind of sounds like meditation or basic anxiety relief and those are available on itunes... I do some meditation and find it go help a lot!

We took a series of four classes. I thought it was worthwhile.

Re: Has anyone tried hypnobirthing?!
I did hypnobirthing with my first. I found it really helpful. I got through a very long period of labor w/o meds. I did wind up w/ an epidural and pitocin, but that was because I vomited 7 (yes 7! ) times in mid labor and became severely dehydrated. This actually caused by labor to stall pretty badly (went from contractions 7 minutes apart for a few hours to over 20 minutes apart by the time I got to the hospital). I was home so I didn't have an IV and couldn't keep liquids down. I really think that if I did not vomit so severely that I might have had a medication free birth. I also found the type of pushing taught in hypnobirthing to be really helpful. They describe traditional pushing as "cheerleader" pushing, which can tire a woman out quickly. I found the pushing/delivery to be the easiest part of my labor. I actually pushed for a long time, but I was so relaxed that it felt much shorter. I definitely plan on using hypnobirthing again, but this time going to the hospital for an IV IMMEDIATELY if I vomit even once.
