Has anyone rented inbetween selling and buying?
We are putting our house on the market and are going to take a significant loss. We will need to use most of our cash to buy out of this house So we will probably need to rent for a few months to a year before we can get into a new house. Has anyone did this? What was your experience? I'm dreading the hassle of moving twice with 2 little kids.

We are doing this right now (well, not renting, but staying in an apartment in my parents' house). We didn't take a loss on our house but wanted to have our first deal completely done before committing ourselves to another house, plus we will have a lot more freedom now to wait for the house that is right for us. Moving twice will stink, and we are a bit on top of each other here, but it's worth it.

Moving twice will stink, and we are a bit on top of each other here, but it's worth it.
Way to go. I wish more would take you advise. Yes it does stink and it is inconvenient, but you are now in total control. Plus you will be in the drivers seat when you buy your next home. A word of advise, when living with family, unless you have this great relationship, try to keep it under 1 year.

I did it. Was a PITA to move twice. But definitely worth it from a financial standpoint.
You will make stronger offers on the house you are buying with not having a house to sell, which will probably mean you can offer less for the house.
ETA: The fact that I moved from a $2700 (P&I&HOI) house to a $1400 a month rental also allowed me to save a couple bucks. The money I saved paid for all my moving expenses, twice.
