Has anyone here purchased their own "dental insurance"
We currently have CapDent through Healthplex, which I guess is like a dental discount savings plan, and basic services like cleanings, X-rays, etc are covered 100%. Then we pay discounted rates on other/major services.
I am set to renew but just noticed we are eligible for an "off exchange" ACA compliant plan that I think is better? Works out to be the same money per month, but there is a fixed copay per visit ($36), and then all diagnostic/preventive/prosthetic/orthodnotia is covered 100%. There is a maximum of $700 OOP per family.
What am I not seeing? I am clueless when it comes to insurance plans and I know dental insurance doesn't really "exist" the way health insurance does, but DH needs some work done and I want to pick the best choice. I priced Humana, Aetna, Cigna and they were all much more expensive.

I'm not really understanding the plan but there should be a calendar year maximum for the plan per person that they pay. Plus it's broken down by preventative: cleanings basic: fillings and major: crowns. Is that paid at 100% by them? PM me if you find out more I was a dental receptionist for 14 years :)

Before you consider switching I would make sure that your dentist accepts that insurance plan.

This is a bit confusing, you should call and make sure crowns and root canals are covered under this as well. When it's 100% covered for crowns and such usually the quality of work is not good, sad to say because they are not getting paid much.

Are you a AAA member? Do they have any supplemental plans that maybe cover the bigger procedures?
