Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
My OB won't tell me gender until 20 weeks when I have my anatomy scan. Yesterday I had an emergency visit to my primary care physician because of issues with my blood pressure. They have a sono tech in their office also- so they told me they'd have her scan me quickly just to check the baby's heart rate and give me peace of mind. She asked if I wanted to know the gender when they scanned me bc the babys legs were in perfect position- she said it's a girl. I'm excited and keep telling everyone- but I'm scared that I'm only 16w4d and maybe she was wrong. Has anyone had a sono tech be wrong? Is it a common mistake? She seemed really confident- she said I'm looking between the legs and there is nothing there- it's definitely a girl. I have so much doubt though- and I also have a huge mouth so I'm still going around telling everyone that it's a girl bc it's what I really wanted.

Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
At my anatomy scan at 20 weeks they said it was a boy, and it was confirmed by a blood test i had to have for a possibly genetic problem (Verifi test).
I only know of one person that was told a girl and it turned out to be a boy. My neighbor, but this was about 15 years ago so I am pretty sure the technology is better now.

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
one of my good friends is a sono tech & she says at 16w, it is clear as day. if you were 12, i'd say there was a chance she could be wrong

Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
They weren't able to determine gender when I was 17w but were able to at 20w. I went for a growth sono yesterday at almost 27w and asked her to double check to make sure!

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
I don't want to scare you, but it happened recently to both my sister and my cousin. With my sister, they told her at her 20 week anatomy scan she was having a girl, she was shocked when on the day of delivery they pulled the baby out (csection) and told her it was a boy! With my cousin they told her she was having a boy at her 20 week scan and a week before her baby shower she found out it was a girl. So it can happen! I was so scared when they told me DS was a boy that I told them to repeatedly check to see if he was still a boy at every sono going forward

My practice won't tell you gender until 20w. I'm sure it's because they want to make sure they don't make a mistake.
I think at 16+ weeks, it's correct. They always checked at every sono and it never changed LOL Also, I'm sure they're correct far more than they are wrong.

My OB (who doesn't do the AS in his office) said girl at 16 weeks. My AS said girl as well. I'm going Monday for my monthly so I will have him triple check just because that would be my luck LoL

My coworkers all keep telling me that at 16+ weeks sonos are 99% accurate. I have another scheduled for Saturday- so I'll just ask again.. and then again at 20 weeks. So I guess maybe after 3 confirmations of the same gender from 3 different techs maybe I'll be more confident.

this is what I did…3 different confirmations from 3 different techs. Each time I go I'm asking.
My SIL was told at 20 weeks she was having a girl but later it was a boy. it was a boy

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
I have a friend who had the sono tech put the gender in an envelope at her 16 week visit, did a gender reveal and it was a boy. she had a little bit of gender disappointment since she already had a boy and wanted a girl.
at her 20 week appt, they checked again and said they were wrong - it's a girl. and sure enough, she delivered a girl. so yes, it can be wrong.

The exact opposite thing happened to my friend about 2 years ago.
I've heard that if they say girl early on, there is always a chance it could still be a boy and the parts just weren't developed enough or in the right place to see...
If it were me, id tell people it's "probably " a girl and hold off on buying things until after your 20 week.

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
I see a high risk Dr. and was told the gender with absolute certainty at 12w, 14w, 16w and 18w (with both my kids). If the equipment is good and the tech/ Dr knows what they're doing there is very little room for error! With that said I know many instances where they were wrong so I would be cautiously optimistic until the 20th week appt.

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
I was told there are three lines and that is how you know it's a girl. Did they see the three lines?

I didn't know to look for lines but I've heard that a lot today that I should have! The only thing making me feel good is that the tech was so positive and said she's never wrong. I'm hoping she's right lol!!

At 16 weeks it was so clear that my dd was a girl that I blurted it out before the tech did. Dh was like, how did you know?? I said, look at that!! There is NOTHING there. (just the telltale 3 lines people talk about).
Congrats on your

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
My BFF had an 18 week + sono and was told Boy (they did it early b/c she wanted to have it for Christmas.) When her husband called me to tell me she had the baby, I thought he was joking when he said it was a girl. This was about 7 years ago though.
I found out at 10 weeks (by genetic test) that I was having a boy. Confirmed at the anatomy scan but I still insisted they check me EVERY time - just in case - because of what my friend went through. Even though the sono tech and doctor kept saying it was VERY OBVIOUSLY a boy, I could never see it!

Re: Has anyone had a sono be wrong??
my only worry would be that at a family practice office, most US techs do NOT specialize in OB US.
we did find out at 16w however, that we were having a girl and it was right.

I was told at 14w it was definitely a girl. A week later it was confirmed when my blood results came back.
