Has anyone gone over in head count at a kid's party place?
We are going to have too many people at our My Gym party for DS#2. Our party is for 20 people and we can go up to 25. I already have 24 RSVP's and 2 maybes have another 2 weeks before the RSVP date.
What happens if you go over the head count?
Should I tell the 26th person I have hit my maximum and have no space for them?

It would be rude to tell the 26th person there is no more room. In the future invite less people or pick a place that can accommodate more children.
I would ask the venue if it would be possible to add more kids. If not I would change the location.

I would first call the place and see what is the max they can accomodate even if you have to pay extra - as in how many people will they squeeze in there before they lock the doors  If that number is 25 - I would still NOT tell number 26 they can't come! I can't imagine that would ever be ok - I've never heard of being invited to a party and being told there is no room for you when you rsvp. That said - if you can't have over the number I would call your closest family and friends - explain the situation and invite them over after the party and ask that they help you out and take one for the team basically. Good luck!

We have a few surprise people coming. One of our closest friends from NYC said they will be coming (was not invited but told us they will be visiting. I could not not invite them.) but then they said they will be bringing a friend. These are very close friends of ours and we would gladly accommodate, esp since most of our good friends are through them.
Then we have all these siblings. The siblings are what are making us go over.
One good friend knows about the situation and said they will not attend if we go over the limit.
Next year, I am doing a joint party at a place that accommodate a very large group so I can invite everyone. I'm thinking a bouncy house or Chuck E Cheese.

You should have said no siblings. This is exactly why its rude to think its okay to bring an uninvited sibling to a party.

I'm still unsure though if you anticipated people bringing siblings, you didn't cut your list from day one. Sounds like you are crazy over your head count.

I made the very wrong decision to invite a few of our friends to both sons' parties expecting that most would attend my older son's party at our house on Sat. What I did not realize is that many people have commitments on Saturdays and seem to prefer or are just more open on a Sunday. Hindsight is 20-20.

DH said it would be no big deal to ask our good friends, esp the ones with the surprise visit from NYC, not to come to My Gym. That would bring our list down to 20 and I will be able to accept some more classmates.
Hopefully I don't get any more RSVPs.
We were at a party this past weekend and another mom told me half of DS#2's class did not RSVP at all to her son's party next week. Hoping that is the case for us too.
