Has anyone ever dyed a dress?
I am a bridesmaid in a wedding and the dress is gorgeous. It's green, which is OK, but not likely i will wear the dress too much. However, it woudl be the perfect little black dress if it was, well, black.
The dress is made of silk. It is the J.Crew Sophia dress.
Has anyone every dyed a dress? How much is it ? Where did you get it done?
Thanks!!!

I've only dyed cotton materials, but never silk. I've used the common dye sold in the arts&crafts stores, and done it myself.

I've dyed little dresses for bridesmaid cards... I think you can probably do it.
Just make sure you follow the directions carefully and make sure all of the dye completely dissolves before putting the garment in or lese you'll get spoltches. Also cover the area..I still have a purple ring on my counter from the bottom of the dye bowl when I did it!

yes dying silk is pretty easy mix the dye and be sure to have lots of plastic down to keep drips off your counters - i agree make sure you have good disolve before putting the gress in or it will get streaky. oh and wear plastic gloves - the first time i dyed fabric i had blue nails for a month.
