Has anyone delivered at Winthrop recently?
How strict are they with keeping the baby in the room overnight? And trying to get moms to breastfeed?

Re: Has anyone delivered at Winthrop recently?
Just delivered there a month ago. There was no pressure at all to keep the baby in the room. They assume you will keep the baby, unless you ask them to take him/her. I was planning to have him with me the whole time. I brought him to the nursery any time I needed to use the bathroom or something but that was it. One night, I brought him so I could go to the bathroom and the nurse insisted that I leave him with them until his next feeding so I could take a nap. I thought that was really nice! I EBF so I don't know the answer about that.

Re: Has anyone delivered at Winthrop recently?
I will be delivering at end of February or early March. I haven't been there in nearly 6 years, so I've been curious and following some prior threads on this.
From what I get, it's now a new policy and being encouraged, but I hear its still acceptable to have the child in the nursery at your request. I actually don't mind the overnight, as I will be breastfeeding and need to get into the routine from the start. It's during the day while I am staying there that I hope I can put the baby in the nursery so I can shower, etc....
As far as breastfeeding, while I plan on doing it, I don't think there is a push. I never felt like anyone even cared which way I fed. again, I know things are different. There is a poster here who is also a nurse there and she has been very informative.

Re: Has anyone delivered at Winthrop recently?
I just delivered there on 12/27, DD was born at 12:43am, I didn't get up to my room until 4am. They asked me that night if I wanted get in my room and I told them to take her to the nursery so I could try to get a few hours of sleep. The next two days she was in my room unless I asked them to take her. When I did ask they didn't give me a problem at all. They asked if I wanted her back for feelings and I told them which feedings to being her back and which to keep her. Example: one night I sent her to the nursery at 10pm and she was due to eat at 11:30 so I had them do that feeding and then bring her to me for the rest of the feedings. I would feed her, change her, cuddle for a few then send her back. No one pressured me about breast feeding either. The nurses were all great. I didn't have a roommate until the morning I was leaving. Last time I delivered there things were a lot different. They are more laid back, baby is allowed in the room during visiting etc. even in l&d it's nice, the baby never leaves the room, they do the first bath etc down there. DD rode up to our room on my lap :) any other questions let me know!
