Re: has anyone been to peru??
Lisa posted my review. (Thanks!) Sorry it was sort of incomplete -- I removed all the picture links because I'm a paranoid weirdo...
Anyway, here’s what I remember: In Lima we strolled around Miraflores and Barranco quite a bit, and the park along the water is nice. If you’re missing home, the Larcomar mall is American-style (and is built into the side of a cliff, really pretty) and has Starbucks and some other American restaurants. In the city center the monastery has some creepy catacombs that were cool. And the museum with erotic pottery is good for a laugh. Otherwise Miraflores and Barranco were the nicer places to hang out.
Cusco has a ton of stuff to do, but the "must do" things are: hang out in the Plaza de Armas (just sit on a bench and catch your breath!), visit Koricancha (loved it), stroll around San Blas, see Sacsayhuaman. There are a BUNCH of museums and Inka sites in and around Cusco, but I’d have to check my notes at home to remember which we visited and whether they were worth it. You can get a discount tourist pass that will get you into most of the main sites for less money.
In the Sacred Valley we went to Ollantaytambo (very cool), Urubamba (just stopped in for some supplies), and Pisaq. Pisaq has a huge market and was great fun for browsing. The market only runs on certain days, so try to time your visit.
Food was delish everywhere! Have the quinoa soup and a Cusquena and some coca tea. Oh, and an Inka Kola! Just be careful of tap water and raw fruits and veggies.
