I try so hard but I cant seem to get more than 4-5 cups of water a day.... am I harming the baby? What are the dangers of not getting enough water? I feel like a failure

Re: Harming Baby?
you're not a failure first of all.
how far along are you? is it that you can't stomach the water? try sparkling water. it's just enough bubbles without making me gassy. what else are you drinking throughout the day?
if you don't get enough water you could get dehydrated, get cramping, low fluid, retain water and bloat...

I'm almost 14 weeks... I used to drink only 2 cups a water a day before baby... but now I try to force down 4-5... sometimes I just dont seem to get too thirsty and I have an 1 1/2 commute to and from work so I cant drink much an hour before I leave work.
I drink some iced tea too and my sister told me it has caffeine in it and I didnt know that
I just want to make sure Im not harming the baby by not drinking enough water... when I do remember to drink, I try to chug down 2 glasses (like I just did right now).

Re: Harming Baby?
Drinking water helps deliver the nutrients you are consuming to the baby, helps with cramping, dehydration (which can happen easier when pregnant) helps prevent infections, prevents you from retaining water, and helps decrease constipation. I am sure there are other things I am missing as well. I hate water! I drink 4-5 cups like you but then supplement with apple, orange, or cranberry juice. I also sometimes drink seltzer or sparkling water which also counts. If you aren't drinking the total 8 cups water you can also eat foods like celery that contain lots of water.

Re: Harming Baby?
I drank the light tropicana punch watered down. Towards the end I was so thirsty that I drank water ALL the time. I was never a big water drinker either.

Harming Baby?
I drink about 4-5 cups as well- I can't seem to get it done either! I am going to the dr tomorrow so I will ask if it's harmful-- I don't think it's harmful to the baby yet but as we get further a long I think we will need more fluids. I know with my first I was not drinking a lot at the beginning and the the dr told me to up it

Crystal light makes a really good decaf iced tea that you can just mix into your water bottle. When I was pregnant I drank a lot of crystal light because I wasn't a big water drinker

me too, I'm so sick of water, I try to have at least 4 cups at work because there's a water cooler & I force myself... once I get home I don't drink much at all.

Re: Harming Baby?
I could be wrong here, but I think if you weren't drinking enough to the point where it was harmful for the baby, you would feel it. You would be light headed.. or have headache.. feel really sluggish... crampy...
Another thing to remember is it's not summer so you're not sweating and losing lots of moisture that way.
Still though, you should def be drinking more. The more the better, so maybe get some drinks that are more interesting than water if that would help.
