hardwood in kitchen - w/o taking out cabinets?
Has anyone put hardwood down in their kitchen, keeping the existing cabinets in place? We redid our kitchen 2 years ago, but I am regretting the tile - so hard on the legs. We have been thinking about doing the LR/DR, so thought it would only be logical to do the kitchen too, since it all runs in together.

Re: hardwood in kitchen - w/o taking out cabinets?
My mom had done a laminate floor in her kitchen and then redid her entire kitchen
The Laminate sucked and she decided to put the Engineered wood wich is hardwood, it can be sanded and stained, but it comes prefinished
She was able to put it in and keep her Kitchen the way it is.
It is definately possible, if you want more info i can ask her
My DH wanted to put tile in the kitchen, cause he wanted radiant heat, which is wonderful but i fought him on it because i knew how hard it is on the back and on your legs

I really believe anything is possible, you just have to find the right wood company I'm sure. We just refinished our kitchen and also did hardwood throughout (we did it before the cabinets though).
It's one of the best decisions I made for the kitchen.
Good luck.

I think it can be done. I have hardwood in my kitchen also. I love it.
My neighbors Planned on adding hardwood after their cabinets (they have laminate right now), and I think I remember that they purposely set their bottom cabinets up higher because when they added the hardwood they would be raised up an inch (does that make sense)???

thanks for the suggestions/advice. Our cabinets are up on tile, so I guess that's a plus, we just might have to chisle some out or something...
the cork picture looks great! I like that it's renewable too

Are you ripping out the tile and then laying the floor. Just remember if you don't you will never be able to service your dishwasher or get a new one.

My parents did it several years ago. I will have to ask them how they did it, though... I just don't remember the process. It looks gorgeous, though!
