Halloween costume help
So, I don't really feel like going out and buying a costume. I have a ton of formal / cocktail dresses and some long gowns. Any ideas on what I could be using these materials?

I can't think of anything you can use a cocktail dress for unless you have one that could pass as a flapper type dress.
Without buying something ...
You can be a zombie (use old ratted clothes - add rips and tears, use Mud mask on your face and add red nail polish on your clothes as blood.
If you have a business suit of some kind, you can wear your hair up in a tight bun, put on some glasses and be a librarian - maybe even put masked tape in the middle of the glasses.
Use a sheet and make a toga dress
Wear tight black pants and tight black shirt, draw on your face like cat woman

With a long dress or a cocktail dress you could be prom queen. Make a sash and wear a crown.

If you have a black or grey dress with no color, you can buy makeup and hair dye and go as a black and white TV person. Google it- they look really cool!!

If one of the dresses is blue, buy devil horns and be "devil with a blue dress on". Years ago someone did that at a party. No one could figure it out, but when she explained it, everyone was like "Oh, I get it!"
