Had Ultrascreen/NT done on 3/31 and received my results today. QUESTION!!!

The odds before testing

Trisomy 1/1700
Downs 1/480

The odds after testing

Trisomy 1/10,000
Downs 1/165

I called SIL with the results right away. The nurse told me my OB will take blood at my next visit (4/17) for the 2nd Trimester screening. The results will be forwarded to the place we had the US/NT done and will evaluate what the next step will be. She said while there was a change in the Downs #, she said it was a small change.

Does anyone have experience with this??? When I was PG with DS I had this done, but (1) the place I had it done was not very informative at ALL and (2) when they called with the results I didn’t get #s, was just told “Everything is good.”

SIL won’t admit it, but I know she is somewhat concerned about the change in the Downs #.

TIA!

Re: Had Ultrascreen/NT done on 3/31 and received my results today. QUESTION!!!

I went through something similar with my first pregnancy in that my numbers got worse AFTER the screening for Down's (the number literally went down by about 50 and my before number was 1 out of 7hundred something). What you would want to see is for the numbers to get better. Because of this my OB said I would have to wait for the ultrascreen 2 (done during my second trimester) and wait to see what the numbers looked like after they were combined. If my numbers were not better then she recommended an amnio- thankfully they did get better so I didn't need any additional testing. Your numbers are still strong so please try not to worry as hard as it may be. Chat Icon

Thank you for sharing. I am not TOO worried, just somewhat concerned. We'll have to just wait and see what the Ultrascreen 2 gives us.

Thanks Cara! (side note: I am a surrogate for my SIL who cannot carry a baby. No #2 for us. . . yet Chat Icon ) I have not seen my OB yet- I have my next appt on 417. The nurse did not seem concerned and said the drop in #w was "small." She said we can talk about options of "Now what" after the ultrascreen 2 bloodwork that OB will do next week.

Would you do an amnio so you/SIL could tell for sure? I just wanted to commend you for doing such a wonderful thing for your family member. I wish all of you the best of luck.
