Had my amnio yesterday...
The amnio itself was really no way as bad as a I thought it would be. My dr was great and made me feel comfortable, I didnt watch him doing it, which helped-dh was nervous watching! It didnt hurt, just felt slight pressure when they were retrieving the fluid. Afterward when I got home as the day went on I've had some cramps that feel like period cramps, and felt a lil tired. I've been just taking it easy on the couch, just relaxing to be on the safe side. After the amnio, my dr left, and the sonographer was checking the baby. She was not very friendly and didnt say much while she was doing the sono, only once in a while saying "that's the baby's leg" or "that's the baby's brain" we asked if she could see the sex but she said she couldnt. another dr came in to have a look, she was cold too, and said the baby wasnt cooperating, and she couldnt see the sex either. She said i have to come back in 4 wks because they couldnt see everything, it was a lil early. I would love to hear anyone else's experiences, if they didnt tell u much either, etc. I am of course paranoid now since they didnt say much, and am going crazy! I figure that if something was wrong, my dr would have to tell me later, since they couldnt tell me after he was gone. I was expecting that the would ck for ds and other things and say that they didnt see any signs of anything on the sono, or tell u if something showed. DH said they wouldve had to say something. any help on this I would love to hear! sorry for the long post!

Re: Had my amnio yesterday...
I'm sorry they were such azz holes.
I had an amnio done in September and I had some paid in my abdomen for a few days afterward, not cramps, actual pain, but the dr said it was "normal".
DS was also a little uncooperative and they couldn't tell us the sex at the time, but the tech really tried. I have to say she was one of the nicest sono techs we've had in this experience, and she wouldn't give up, but eventually the baby just turned over and mooned us all!!
The amnio itself checks for down's, so don't worry that no one gave you any info at the time.
Rest up, take it easy, and you'll have the results before you know it!!

Re: Had my amnio yesterday...
Hi,
I had an amnio on Jan. 23 (and still waiting for results which is making me insane...) the tech didn't talk much either, she just pointed out a few body parts and stuff. she said she couldn't tell the sex when i asked if she knew, though i didn't want to know, i just wanted to know if she could tell for herself. which hospital did you have it done at? i had mine at north shore university hospital in manhasset.
